It's not a bad CPU at all, it gets the job done. I mean it isn't for hardcore encoding or converting, but for daily use it's great, even for photoshop or flash, even though that may be more on the GPU side.

There's nothing the CPU/GPU can't handle for everyday people. The CPU for the macbooks maybe a bit better, but it's nothing substantial.

I'll admit it's an interesting laptop but it's no engineering feat. They removed the optical drive, made the laptop thicker, used a very low speed CPU. Then they just shrunk the footprint to 11in and put in a big GPU.

Not to mention you have to spend $100 to upgrade from a Pentium SU4100 to the Core 2 Duo at 1.3ghz (idk if there is much benefit there), it still weighs the same 4.5lbs that the 13in MBP weighs and it doesn't have bluetooth standard. I would also say the battery probably a little bigger on the 13in MBP.

While I know it's crazy I wish Apple would just remove the optical drive on the 13in MBP and throw in an ATI 5650, it would then beat out the m11x in both the graphics and CPU department.

I don't care about their alienware-laptops. They look rubbish and cheap. Their Studio 15 is the one to beat for me. I can configure one with i7 quad core, a great graphic card and 8gb of RAM for €1300. One might say the quality isn't on par with MBPs, but I'm afraid apple won't offer me such specs for less than €2000. I sure hope so, though, cause I really like them MBPs. But €700 extra for a piece of aluminium is a bit harsh.

wow.."rubbish and cheap"
you are really superficial, the studio line is the cheap ass notebook line

It's beautiful machine, very beautiful. I just don't know how they managed to get such a good and fast CPU into it.

Will the NVIDIA GT335M even be able to get hold of this superior CPU?

If you think that's a beautiful machine, you and I have very different tastes, indeed.

I'll wait for the Core i5 or Core i3 version to come out. I want to see some improvement over my Core 2 Duo T7500.

The M11x leverages on GPU power for its small size. You don't sacrifice battery life either.

Yup. Definitely waiting for that as well.

I ordered one for $640 the 2nd day it was available. There are a lot of coupons you can apply to bring the price down or call in and haggle down.

Look at the glowing blue lights and the Alienware logo. I would get laughed at if I brought this thing into work...

I'm only saying what my experience is with those laptops. Quite a lot of people have one at my school. Yes, they look rubbish and cheap to me (which, of course, I know they aren't). No need to get personal about my taste of things.

You can turn it all off. If i buy one (im considering it) I would make all the lights white and turn all of them off except the keyboard backlight.

Also, why do people keep saying its thick? Its not at all, its damn thin.

it is thick

1.28" is thick...very thick....the ports look terrible on the side....all sandwiched to the bottom and not nicely done.

dell gets a 1/10 for design on that one....looks like a lego building block...

I know you can turn it all off. Alienware is still a 'gamer brand' though. Thing about this lappy is that it's the nVidia card in the small package that's attractive, but it's held back by the CPU, which is comparatively weak. If you're looking for super-portable gaming, this is a win. For everything else?

I dont see it as a super portable gaming rig.

I see it as a super portable computer with great battery life and FAR better performance than any other computer in its size range that can also play games well.

The ridiculous "Apple Fanboy" replies in this thread are making me cringe so much. Looks like a nice Netbook, I would chose that over a MBP if it had OSX on it.

That was meant as sarcasm, that's why I added the "powerful CPU" remark.

I mean, the MB is thinner and has a faster CPU than that machine.

But we may and will still have different tastes anyway. ;)

Wow. Yeah. I confess I did completely miss the sarcasm. It's the internets, and I see many *serious* posts just like yours.

Well, I personally think it's a great little laptop that I will definitely purchase, if the new macbook pro's that will come out eventually aren't suited for me. I love OS X and all, but I think the portability and strength of the m11x seems good for me.

Core 2 Duo for a new laptop? with such a low ghz... why are we all waiting for Arrandale when these laptops are supposed to be the ultimate gaming machine, which is more than I would use for a laptop (my simple video/photo/document editing). I thought C2D was outdated?

its a NETBOOK its not supposed to have state of the art technology. most netbooks have atoms so this is really better than most netbooks.
