I don't know what to do, don't know how I'd answer this question yet. My 7plus is awesome and I could easily use it for another year. If I had a buyer for mine around $550 lined up I'd sell it and throw in the otter box and another still in the box new screen glass. This is a hard year to stop upgrading annually.

I usually sell my current iPhone either just before or just after the release of the new iPhone. Usually get about 75% of what it cost when I bought it new when selling privately.

I saw ur post... I'm looking into selling an iPhone 7 plus...when you mean privately, is that people like you personally know? where are you selling it that u get 75% value....Im having a hard time getting like 50%

Just on kijiji / craigslist. Usually a bit more work, bit more risk though. But I’ve been selling odd stuff like that for years. Selling iPhones definitely takes a bit more time like that now. In the 3G to 5 years I would get hammered with replies and offers.

Also, I keep mine in excellent / perfect looking condition, original box, accessories never touched and a lot of excellent photos for the ad.

In all honesty, if the iPhone upgrade program was available where I live, I’d probably just jump on that and treat it more like a monthly expense and not worry about the hassle of needing to sell each year.

So happy I don't deal with having to sell my phone anymore! Just order the new one and AT&T sends me a box to return my old one.

Completely agree here. I just don't want to take the risk with how selling online, as its become completely vulnerable to those who want to fraud an honest seller. And iPhone is not a cheap device, and it can be a lot of money/time for somebody to lose over something I would rather trade in, potentially taking a loss of profit if necessary.

Selling iPhones on eBay. Not sure if brave or naive....
Brave or naive? What's the problem with eBay AS a seller? OK, I'll tell you one problem, failure to pay immediately. Just closed an auction on eBay for $581 for an IP7 (128gb). However, I had a novice buyer (zero rating) who has not paid as yet. If it's not paid for by tomorrow, I'll relist it. I don't see any downside to eBay selling wise other than failure to pay, but the phone doesn't ship until Paypal reports payment. I've sold all my IPs since the IP3 on eBay.

Anyway, tomorrow it will either be a second chance buyer or I'll simply relist it. No big deal either way on the selling side. On the buying side, it's a whole different story, but I would never buy a used phone on ebay.

I just sold my 6S Plus for around $480 and now I’m thinking I should’ve priced it a little higher. It was only up for a couple hours before selling.

To each their own. Personally, I’m happy to have an unlocked phone not tied to a carrier contract :)

Disclaimer: no firsthand experience.

I’ve just seen MANY threads on here with sellers complaining about getting ripped off by buyers. Seriously, a lot.

Most of the time it involves the buyer filing a claim after getting the phone. They typically claim it isn’t as described, has issues, is iCloud locked, etc. the kicker is when you get “your” iPhone back, you get a junker phone or one with an iCloud lock. Almost all eBay protections are for buyers, not sellers.

Best of luck though. I hope it all works out.

You should open an unpaid item case instead of just relisting it. The whole process takes about a week, but if you don't do it then Ebay will still charge you a final value fee.

This is why I only do buy it now listings and require immediate payment. I've had to deal with unpaid items for way too many phone auctions.

I always screenshot the iCloud activation checker page several times during the shipping process (it shows a timestamp), and photograph the phone as I'm packaging it including a picture with the IMEI up on the screen, matching the IMEI on the iCloud activation page. I also insure the package and get delivery confirmation. While I've never had issues selling iPhones, I'm hoping this would be enough to defend myself if the buyer did open a false case.

Honestly these are all things you should do when trading in your phone to a carrier, especially by mail. I have read TONS of stories of the warehouse losing the phone or claiming it doesn't work. Then you get charged for the phone.

That’s good. For me, just not worth the hassle. I’d rather sell it locally and maybe net a few bucks less than jump through so many extra hoops and still have to cross my fingers.

Glad you haven’t been taken advantage of.

Selling it locally, while probably more risky for the buyer, can be dangerous too. Buyer could snatch the phone and run. I have read of that happening too. Best to meet at a carrier store or other public place.

Yes, agreed. Only meet at a carrier store or Police Station. Not difficult, as they’re everywhere.

I'd sell my 7 now before prices plummet, but I'm not sure that I want the new iPhone yet, especially with it apparently going to cost $999.

I cancelled the sale. So you're saying I still have to pay for the normal fees for this cancelled sale? Not sure how "buy it now" protects you. So, some jerk clicks on buy it now, but then doesn't follow through with the payment. Doesn't that take your listing down for a while?

Opening an unpaid item case for a week seems fine for most stuff, but waiting a week in selling an iPhone just before the new ones come out doesn't seem very smart to me. Time is money in this narrow window. I think I read that Apple's announcement about the next phone is going to be on Sep 12th. In the mean time, prices are dropping.

If you require immediate payment, the item remains available until they complete checkout. https://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/require-immediate-payment.html

So I think you can actually get your final value fee back if you cancel the sale, but it can count against your seller performance score and the buyer can leave negative feedback. The buyer can't leave feedback if an unpaid item case closes in your favor, plus it counts against the buyer and their account can be closed. https://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/cancel-transaction-process.html#cancel
