I have an 24" iMac and the Apple Care expired in December 2010.

In November 2010 I took it in to have the HDD checked out.

Three days later I walked out of the store with the computer and this is what they replaced .....

Hard Drive
LCD Panel ( they spotted a deficiency )
Logic Board ( A USB Port was not working - I never tried to use it so I had no clue )

Today I am still using the machine .... for all practical matter it's all but brand new! LOL

Totally worth it for me.

Up to my 2nd iMac (first one handed down to my parents with no problems) Macbook air and an iPhone, all with extended warranty.

Had to replace the hard drive in the Macbook air after 2.5 years, informed by an apple staff member usual for hard drive to go after 2 years (not sure if he was referring to Macbook air only) had to replace the same hard drive 3 months later.

Happy with all my products and peace of mind for when things may go wrong, plus able to claim added cost of care as a work expense along with the initial purchase if used for work.

Will always take out the coverage for when things may go wrong. Service from the genius bar exceptional, all replaced within days.:)

This may sound biased (but I am being as honest as I can not taking sides) that applecare is a MUST (even if you have to cut corners elsewhere) on apple portables (macbook/MBP's).

Portables get moved/carried/bumped/etc all the time while in use and while not in use. There are little tolerance allowances for a machine to perform perfectly, especially after it's first year. Desktop computers on the other hand, sit dormant either on the floor or a desk. If the hard drive dies, you are still probably going to save by replacing it rather than getting it replaced under applecare. The chances of another component dying on a desktop are still there, but less likely of dying when compared to a laptop. You are also paying a premium for parts in a laptop because of their smaller footprint and stricter tolerances.

But the cost of AppleCare differs greatly to account for those differences. For the money, AppleCare is a great deal. I like the idea of taking the machine in towards the end of AppleCare for a final checkup.

I used it for an iPad and definitely would get it again, or a store warranty if I go "cheapo" (non BTO) and get from WorstBuy.

Definitely, if only for the ability to call up Apple support and get answers to technical and usage questions. So far I have had no Apple hardware issues.

That said, I have had some odd software-related incidents that I needed help with and they were resolved speedily.

On one occasion, I had a hardware problem that turned out to be a video cable glitch, and I was helped with that too.

It's a joy to speak to a support group that has not been outsourced offshore and employs people who are well trained and understand what the customer is talking about.

i haven't used applecare before but i ordered it along with my new imac. Seems more then worth it. better safe then sory.

myn should arrive sometime tomorrow or friday.

Yes. They replaced a dead mouse. I called when I transferred from a PC to the Mac and had some issues as a result of the transfer. After coming from Dell the folks at Applecare guaranteed that I won't be migrating back to a PC anytime soon.

I've owned several Apple products and most of my failures have happened within the first year. I've purchased AppleCare on two of my machines and never ended up using it..

Yep

1st instance:

When my G5 2.5 had a liquid cooling leak the cost of the repairs exceeded the cost of the machine new (I think I was quoted $3100 for the cost of the repairs plus parts) as it took out the power supply, processors, liquid cooling unit, cooling unit fascia, pretty much everything was swapped out internally except the case, the superdrive and hard drive. That repair saved my bacon as there's no way I could have afforded that.

2nd:

My iMac Corei7. Just tonight it was found that the internal drive failed so they're swapping that.

Applecare Worth It? You Bet!

2 months prior to my Applecare expiring on my Mac Pro, the logic board died followed 1 week later by the video card. Didn't cost me a cent for parts or labor, and it was fixed quickly (Apple products under warrantee get priority at my local Apple repair center). Apple products are great, but they do break like anything else!
