Hahahahaha... I get a -2 for this. So funny!

Thanks to all for your comments
Yeah - I thought that was silly too.

For what it's worth, I had doubts before I got my iPad, but I use it all the time - but it has decreased how often I use my iPhone.

Hello...

I want to share what stops me from buying an iPad. I just feel it’s redundant to have an iPad while having an iPhone. I feel like I have two iphones… one bigger than the other one. They do almost the same thing. Do you think the same way?...

Not at all. I have an iPhone 4S and an iPad (3rd gen) and I enjoy the extra real screen real estate. Not to mention, there are many dedicated iPad apps that do more and do more things easier than the similar iPhone apps.

The iPad is also much nicer while traveling. I went to Chicago a few weeks ago as a passenger in the car, and having the big screen was very nice while using Google maps for navigation. Also, it's nicer to watch Netflix or other videos on compared to the smaller iPhone screen.

If anything, having my iPad at the house has killed my usage of my iPhone. i used to always use my iPhone here, but other than calls, I dont touch it here at all, at the house.

I use my iPad as a temporary substitute for my laptop and for different purposes than my iPhone. For example, I booked a hotel stay on it yesterday. Wouldn't ordinarily do that on my iPhone.

The iPad is really awesome for browsing the net. The experience is just fantastic. If you can get both, it's definitely worth it.

I went on a business trip recently and accidentally left my iPad behind. Only had my iPhone. Interesting experience. The iPhone was extremely useful, but the small screen was too small for a lot of functions that I use the iPod for. I was able to comfortably use the iPhone to read a novel, browse some forums, make calls, look up stuff and play games, but not do serious work or comfortably read documents. As others have said, they are very complimentary.

I have an iPhone 4 and a new iPad and I love it. I take most of the games off my phone and put them on my iPad, so it frees up for more music. Also i hate playing/reading things on a small screen like the phone. The iPad just makes web surfing, reading, etc nice.

I have an iPhone 4S and an iPad LTE. They serve COMPLETELY different purposes. I haven't used my laptop once since I got the iPad, it's just so much more convenient. The iPhone is, well a phone.

I have an iMac, iPad (1) and iPhone.

I rarely use my iPad unless I'm travelling or I have friends round and we use it for Spotify. The browsing I do can all be done sufficiently from my iPhone. Reading Reddit doesn't require a large screen!

The iMac is for proper work, Photoshop and for watching films/TV (albeit pushed to a slightly larger secondary monitor).

iPad is great for editing word and excel documents. Makes it even easier to do so with a Bluetooth keyboard. Also better browsing experience. Less pinch to zoom, and scrolling around.

Not redundant at all for me because my iPad does many things better than my iPhone because of the larger screen size. I found I actually reverted to using my iPhone primarily for calls, text, photos, and email (rarely for browsing except when it's the only available device) after buying my first iPad 2 years ago. I hope the upcoming new iPhone has a taller AND wider screen - I think it would greatly improve useability as a web-browsing and ereader device. I don't think the supposed leaked model with only a vertical stretch is going to do it for me.

It is a bonus IMO that iPhone and iPad function so similarly. I bought my technophobe parents iPhones last year. Once they had somewhat  mastered using them, acclimating to new iPads this spring was much easier!

+1 on the general consensus here. I own a 4S and the new iPad and enjoy both, equally as much for different reasons. I've got a $900 Dell laptop that I hardly ever use anymore, and when I'm away from home the iPhone is all I need. I felt like the OP at first, but now I couldn't part with my iPad.

Wow, what a silly question. Of course its not redundant. All my devices serve a specific purpose:

iPhone 3G - MP3 Player
iPhone 4S - On the go
iPad 2 - Browsing, gaming, looking at pictures
iPad 3 - Videos, e-books
MBP (Early 2011) 13'' - On the go when some longer text entry is needed
MBP (Early 2011) 15'' - At home when longer text entry is needed
RMBP (Mid-2012) - At home for developing apps

I felt the same way. In reality the iPad is a luxury device. I really can't justify the purchase of an iPad other than for comfort. It will replace your laptop and iPhone use around the house but you can get along just fine without one. No one really needs an iPad but once you get it you'll love it.

No one really needs an iPad but once you get it you'll love it.

I hate to agree with this because I love my iPad, and would hate to do without it, but it's true that nobody really NEEDS an iPad. I think the way I feel about it is kind of like how nobody really needs a TV, but few people are willing to live without one. I can make do with just my iPhone and my MacBook Air, but it's so, so, so much nicer to have the iPad.

Not at all.

I use all the items in my signature for different things.

my 13" MBP isn't used as much lately though... thinking I might sell it...

My iPad lives in my bag or on my nightstand as I watch movies and TV at night on it.

My iPhone is more of a work device for gaming and email (although I can and do this on my iPad).

My MBA is my powerhouse, it handles my work load and is used to move movies and songs to my iDevices.

Whilst the iPad does most of what my iPhone does, certain tasks for me are easier on the iPad, like RDP into servers for maintenance, document editing and watching media.

And just to chime in, I have the late 2011 Air, and ended up selling my 15" MBP as the Air handles everything I need it to.

Even if it seems redundant to some, the new iPad is just a nice piece of equipment and hard to regret getting, unless you really just don't have the money to spare.

They complete each other

MBA: work, torrents, sorting out data and serious emailing. Also, connected to my speakers.

iPad: iTunes remote, gaming, music in the kitchen, movies, not so serious emailing, GarageBand.

iPhone: phone, iPod, gaming in the bus/at work, not so serious emailing.

Internet browsing on all of them depending on where I am. Pages helps editing docs on the go on the iOs devices although I prefer Word.

I guess I am pretty mainstream :)

I don't feel they are same because I put different apps on both idevices like I don't need to install Temple Run on my iPhone…only on iPad bec the screen size is bigger than iPhone :apple:

No

My iPhone is a phone, my iPad a tablet.

My iPhone makes a lousy tablet too small. Always pinching and zooming.

My iPad makes a lousy phone, way too big for pocket, holster.

This. :)
My rMBP is for work, heavy work load and sometimes movies
My iPad is for movies, games, fun, and reading
iPhone is for texting and talking browsing the web on it is a pain.
