i'm considering returning mine. Not getting really much use for it in my current house and when I had something come up I asked Siri to add it to my calendar and the speaker said it couldn't add things to my calendar. That seems like a pretty basic task that It could not do. Also found out that HomePod does not work with wink products and wemo. My house is setup on home automation with those and I still have to have Alexa control those. I will say the one thing I love is how easy it is to get Siri's attention. I sometimes have to yell at Alexa for the speaker to hear. Hopefully I can jump on this with the 2nd generation.

If Apple wants to get into this market they will need to give the people something that cost less than $350. Thinking they will have a smaller model out by the end of the year that will be about $150.

I do not think that Apple's venture into the HomePod will be putting them in the speaker business.

System is four Play 5 speakers and the Sub. There are also 4 Play 1 speakers in bedrooms and loft.

I would not expect the HomePod to compete. My original posts was simply telling how much I love my existing system and was going to stick with it. I want the HomePod because I love Apple products, but there are time when you just got to stop!

Hope everyone enjoys what they got!

Color me confused as to why you started this thread in the first place given what you already own?

Come back when Apple has stereo functioning for $700 and we can do some comparisons. Right now it is just 1 speaker versus competitors for arguments sake. The HP holds its own for the buck.

Ok, I will color you confused;)

If I were you I’d move things around. Pairing the Play 5s with a sub is a waste. When paired with a sub the Play 5 deactivates it’s own sub. I’d suggest pairing two play 1s to the sub and check out whether it makes much difference. I moved from two Play 5s+Sub to two Play 3s+Sub and saw no degradation. BTW - the sub really does work wonders doesn’t it!

Thanks but the room is very large with near 38' ceilings and I am quite happy with all the way it is.

Yeah, its pretty sad that Siri is so limited, especially given that type of functionality has been in voice assistants for many years.

I think Apple says they are working on it. Some how the cart got in front of the horse.

Siri integration should be something that was updated 2 years ago, and as we march into 2018, we still don't have the functionality.

I've done a near 180 on the HomePod and I'm liking it, and I may very well buy it, but that doesn't mean that my opinion of Siri has changed.

WeMo has a new bridge by Belkin that is compatible with HomeKit
.https://www.digitaltrends.com/home/wemo-bridge-apple-homekit/
I am using it for a WeMo kitchen appliance I got from my family for Christmas. It works like a charm, e.g., turns on, sets, times through the HomePod. I don't know anything about wink.

I hope that Apple is working on addressing this soon.

I will be cutting the cord with Xfinity before the year is out and decided I will use Apple TV as it will work well with all of my Apple and even non-Apple equipment. Was thinking the HomePod would be a nice addition for the Siri aspect but they are going to have to step up and help Siri with new features.

I have been and will continue to enjoy my stuff.

The HomePod will find it's place but if you read this thread, many are not too happy and are returning.

At least they tried it, you didn’t. You ordered them and then decide to cancel regardless.

Again I do not understand the basis of the thread given what you already have and you did not even try the HPs. There is zero basis of comparison to begin with.

Sorry I am such a disappointment to you, maybe if you moved on to a different thread.

I could definitely understand someone having second thought especially due to the limitations of Siri.

I’m not that impressed with it at its price point. But I’m not miserably disappointed either. For me it does sound good and it has forced me to discover new music which is something I really appreciate it.

I’m going to wait it out. Hope it improves much like other Apple products have and not buy another one (or recommend it) until I feel the value outweighs the its cost.

I believe there are many more that are extremely satisfied with the HP like me and I have already purchased a second one. I will be buying more after the update for stereo comes out.

My next door neighbor now has 4 HomePods and they sound great!

I am a Apple lover if there ever was one but not going to replace my current gear for this. It is really a lack of need and I have bought almost every Apple product they made. Siri on my watch and phone takes care of the needs I want.

Hope you enjoy!

I'm working on somehow getting the wife to agree I 'NEED' a Sub........
ya it was hard but I could not think of anything else for my wife for Christmas. I found 10% off of it through a podcast that was the best deal I could find. one cool thing if you order from sonos you can pick the day pf delivery and even get free setup if you want though I could not get the deal if I chose the day it was delivered.

You lot need to use my 8 Step Plan!!!

1. Go ahead and make the purchase whatever it may be, HomePod, car remap/parts, new TV, trip away with the boys etc. etc.
2. Keep it quiet for as long as possible (this keeps earache down to a minimum)
3. As and when the new purchase is about to be delivered or you are about to go on that trip with the lads, start dropping subtle hints.
4. SWMBO finds out about said purchase/up coming trip
5. All hell breaks loose (be prepared for a rocky ride for up to a week)
6. SWMBO calms down (but has still not forgiven you so tread carefully)
7. After around two weeks everything is back to normal.
8. Start planning the next purchase/trip

This will lead to years of happy wedded bliss. You can ask my current and Ex-Wives to testify to that extent! :p:rolleyes::D
