I wonder what happens after the 800 hours of "included" with plan? The idea seems to be fantastic but only if it fits the bill. Isn't netflix on iPad as well?

Of course, with a 2GB ATT cap on Data, this will be a Wifi only option and likely no support for offline viewing.

Like netflix.

This is about HBO. Showtime execs aren't watching this but they'll let a heavy hitter like HBO test the waters.

I'm saying that Showtime will most likely follow with something similar. The only show that I watch on HBO is Hung, while I like a lot of the shows on Showtime.
Off topic: Is it legal to torrent HBO shows if you pay for the service? And if not, why?

Not legal, because by definition if you are torrenting it, you are distributing it to others who may not have an HBO subscription. Best to go with a direct download of some sort.

If I get it from RapidShare it is legal?

Rapidshare is terrible if you're a free user... Anyway, technically it's probably not legal but I would feel less guilty using direct download where you aren't distributing to anyone else.

HBO is about $15 a month if you just pay outside a "rate locked" deal. However, you need digital cable extended plus HBO which is actually $100 as you're talking about. They clearly state that this is free to subscribers, we'll see where this goes.

Netflix, Hulu, and individual networks will soon put cable TV out of business. Not a moment too soon too. I pay $175 for phone, internet, and cable. I have a DVR and a TIVO. I am being assraped monthly and it's getting quite costly and annoying.

+1
I'm trying to get rid of Cable, not get more tied into it.
I'd be thrilled to pay HBO $15/mo directly. I have about 4 cable stations I watch. I'd much prefer to pull everything over my internet connection and skip the cable totally.
Seriously doubt the cable monopolies will ever allow that.

QFT. Right now Hulu only carries content for:

NBC, ABC and FOX, PBS, USA, Bravo, Comedy Central, Fuel, FX, NFL Network, Speed, Big Ten Network, Syfy, Style, Sundance, E!, G4, Versus, A&E, Oxygen, Onion News.

Which seems like a good deal for $9.99/month until you realize that:

1. NBC, ABC and FOX are free over the air all over the US
2. The channels don't offer their full lineups
3. There is still advertising.
4. What good shows are actually on these channels? ABC used to have Lost and my girlfriend likes Grey's Anatomy but those are already available for free.

Comedy Central stuff might be worth it I guess but I would trade all of these channels for AMC.

10 bucks a month for access to the entire series of the office, glee, arrested development, Buffy, x files, lost just for starters .... It's limited to network participation but i have to say they really do have some great content here.

I've never even heard of HBO Go.

Hopefully this will be available to all HBO subscribers, regardless of cable provider. When I go to the HBO Go website, it says that it's only available for Comcast and Verizon FIOs.

Hey Time Warner: get on the friggin' trolley.

I'm not saying it's terrible. But as I said, ALOT of the stuff is available for free OTA and you are still getting advertisements.

The Office is great but getting a little old. I don't care for Glee (I would rather not listen to those kids butcher good songs). Arrested Development has been off the air forever, same for Buffy, X-Files, and Lost.

I would trade Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Californication, True Blood, Big Love etc. for any of those but maybe I have strange taste in TV. As I said before, I don't watch that much though. I just watch a few shows but they generally are things I think are worth watching.

I don't want HBO …I want True Blood. I don't want Showtime …I want Dexter.

I don't want to have to pay for all the extra crap I will never watch just to get the shows I like. Unfortunately the cable mafia has too much influence and greedy execs can't see the forest for the trees.

Hopefully Showtime will ink a deal with netflix and fart in HBO's general direction. I'm not betting they are any smarter though.

Exactly. This is why I am saying that Hulu+ isn't really that good of a deal to me. There aren't many shows on there I would watch and those that are, I can already watch on network TV for free...

Netflix on the iPad appears to be sharper than on a desktop monitor.

I was really underwhelmed with the demo video I watched on the iPad (the pre-loaded stuff Apple puts on the demo models at Future Shop here in Canada). It looked really soft and un-saturated.

So, I'm guessing it can look better?

Nothing is free!!!!

I just looked into HBOGO. It's not free for comcast subscribers, it's an extra $19.99 a month.

Most movies, given the bandwidth, come in much sharper and more vivid than that demo revealed.

I've even noticed a marginal improvement since March.

Funny, last night I looked for an HBO app and now this. I'm very very excited.
this is something that will make me keep my $175 cable bill. I want portable media. I don't have a TV in my room by choice but I watch stuff on my iPad nightly. Well, unless I'm pulling a pee wee herman.

Wow, $175/mo for cable?
I hope that comes with a happy ending.

I'm pissed I pay $120 for Dish+Cable Broadband total (will be less when I move).

I wonder how this would work for college dorms that come with cable and HBO as part of the rent for every room.

Not sure if this has been answered, but does HBO Go include they're back catalog? I miss Flight of the Conchords....
