What say you, Showtime?
In the pipe-line, for sure.
This is about HBO. Showtime execs aren't watching this but they'll let a heavy hitter like HBO test the waters.
In a similar manner to the way Hulu waited for Netflix.
No soup for you.

I'm saying that Showtime will most likely follow with something similar. The only show that I watch on HBO is Hung, while I like a lot of the shows on Showtime.
Off topic: Is it legal to torrent HBO shows if you pay for the service? And if not, why?
If I get it from RapidShare it is legal? Not legal, because by definition if you are torrenting it, you are distributing it to others who may not have an HBO subscription. Best to go with a direct download of some sort.

You're kidding, right? No, it's still not legal.
HBO is about $15 a month if you just pay outside a "rate locked" deal. However, you need digital cable extended plus HBO which is actually $100 as you're talking about. They clearly state that this is free to subscribers, we'll see where this goes.
Netflix, Hulu, and individual networks will soon put cable TV out of business. Not a moment too soon too. I pay $175 for phone, internet, and cable. I have a DVR and a TIVO. I am being assraped monthly and it's getting quite costly and annoying.
QFT. Right now Hulu only carries content for:
NBC, ABC and FOX, PBS, USA, Bravo, Comedy Central, Fuel, FX, NFL Network, Speed, Big Ten Network, Syfy, Style, Sundance, E!, G4, Versus, A&E, Oxygen, Onion News.
Which seems like a good deal for $9.99/month until you realize that:
1. NBC, ABC and FOX are free over the air all over the US
2. The channels don't offer their full lineups
3. There is still advertising.
4. What good shows are actually on these channels? ABC used to have Lost and my girlfriend likes Grey's Anatomy but those are already available for free.
Comedy Central stuff might be worth it I guess but I would trade all of these channels for AMC.
10 bucks a month for access to the entire series of the office, glee, arrested development, Buffy, x files, lost just for starters .... It's limited to network participation but i have to say they really do have some great content here.
I don't want HBO I want True Blood. I don't want Showtime I want Dexter.
I don't want to have to pay for all the extra crap I will never watch just to get the shows I like. Unfortunately the cable mafia has too much influence and greedy execs can't see the forest for the trees.
Hopefully Showtime will ink a deal with netflix and fart in HBO's general direction. I'm not betting they are any smarter though.
Netflix on the iPad appears to be sharper than on a desktop monitor.
I was really underwhelmed with the demo video I watched on the iPad (the pre-loaded stuff Apple puts on the demo models at Future Shop here in Canada). It looked really soft and un-saturated.
So, I'm guessing it can look better?
Funny, last night I looked for an HBO app and now this. I'm very very excited.
this is something that will make me keep my $175 cable bill. I want portable media. I don't have a TV in my room by choice but I watch stuff on my iPad nightly. Well, unless I'm pulling a pee wee herman.
I wonder how this would work for college dorms that come with cable and HBO as part of the rent for every room.
