You'll soon be able to watch your favorite HBO shows on the Vision Pro, as streaming service Max will be available on Apple's mixed reality headset at launch. Formerly known as HBO Max, the service also offers content from CNN, the DC Universe, the Discovery Channel, the Food Network, HGTV, TBS, TLC, TNT, and more.

Apple last week confirmed that Max would be one of the entertainment options available on the Vision Pro, along with Apple TV+ and Disney+.

"Apple Vision Pro features ultra-high-resolution displays that deliver more pixels than a 4K TV for each eye, enabling users to watch movies and TV shows from Apple TV+, Disney+, Max, and other services on a screen that feels 100 feet wide with support for HDR content," said Apple, in a press release.

Max will natively support the visionOS operating system, allowing it to take full advantage of the Vision Pro's immersive capabilities. However, the exact design and functionality of the app remains to be seen.

Disney CEO Bob Iger last year said Disney+ would also be available on the Vision Pro at launch, promising "deeply personal experiences." Its app will also natively support visionOS, and it will be prominently featured in the App Store on the Vision Pro.

Some other streaming services will likely be available on the Vision Pro at launch, but not all will natively support visionOS. For example, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Netflix will simply offer its iPadOS app on visionOS without any modifications, at least to start. Apple said the Vision Pro is compatible with over one million iOS and iPadOS apps.

Vision Pro pre-orders begin in the U.S. this Friday, January 19 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time, and the headset launches on Friday, February 2.

I have zero faith Warner Media. it took them months to get the Apple TV app to even work decently when they re-released it. HDR content didn’t work correctly, frame rate matching did not work. The app was an absolute mess. So I’ll believe it when I see it.

It’ll probably have huge black bars on movies when it shouldn’t. Lol.

not a subscriber now and no plans for the future ... the VPro on the other hand might be in my future pending the demo at an Apple Store

Okay but can we stream 3D movies? That's what I want to know. I hate the movie theater 3D experience because the glasses have focal issues, but having a truly 3D movie experience on Vision Pro sounds awesome
Unfortunately Apple Vision Pro will have the same focal issues. I don’t think anyone has solved this. The little OLED screens are still on a fixed focal point, and the movie is still recorded the same way with the camera operators in control of focus.

On principle I won’t sign up for any streaming service that doesn’t integrate with Apple TV ‘Up Next’. That means no Netflix for me and no Max.

Unbelievable that Max would roll out a Vision Pro app for the tiny user community that will have before they’ve added basic functionality to their Apple TV app for a much larger community.

And I say this as someone who plans to buy the Vision Pro on release day!

Ok, turns out I was wrong about this. And therefore, well done Max for being forward thinking and being one of the first to support Vision Pro! :)

I rip 3D Blu-ray movies and watch on my Quest 3 through 4XVR & an external SSD - it's quite the experience. Just watched the Avatar sequel and it was gorgeous.

When HBO Max became "Max" they downgraded all tier resolutions downwards so that you had to pay 2x what you were paying before to get 4K resolution back. Basically, they copied Netflix's structure that also screws customers. So how will their different tiers looks in Apple Vision's super-resolution? I'm betting it will only look passable even with their most expensive tier.

Max integrates fine with TV Up Next for me.
It also appears in the new TV app sidebar for me.

It does? That’s very strange… I downloaded it maybe a month ago and it didn’t, so I got a refund on my subscription and deleted it. I also googled it at that time and saw threads of other people complaining that it didn’t integrate.

Have they made a recent change to add this functionality in the last few weeks? If so maybe I’ll sign up again!

Isn't this the same as the app being available on iPadOS or tvOS for 4K streaming content? It should support HDR as AVP does. I guess it's news since there are not that many 3rd party apps yet on it.

I’ve stopped watching my favorite shows in Apple TV app in advance to the release and new experiences.

I don’t know if it’s a recent change, I know when the app was released back in May It was a big complaint.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I live in the US and get Max through an Internet provider.
It integrates right into the TV app, available through the sidebar, everything works just perfectly.

The app that really frustrates me is Peacock, which has Apple TV app support but seems to get stuck on the loading screen every time I try to access a Peacock show through the Up Next queue in the TV app.
