HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography - post your HDR

My first HDR with the Rebel T2i. Photomatix doesn't recognize the T2i RAWs yet so I'm not sure if this could've been better. The sky looks funny.

Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T2i
Aperture: f/22.0
Focal Length: 21 mm
ISO Speed: 3200

Nice work. Photomatix recommends you process your RAWs prior to merging anyway.

For the sky, you could add one of the original bracketed shots as a layer in PS and mask out all but the sky. StuckInCustoms has a great tutorial: http://www.stuckincustoms.com/hdr-tutorial/

^^^ Very nice! If at all possible i would try to lower the intensity of the fence, as on the left where its pure white it's somewhat distracting.



I shot this a few nights ago in my backyard. I feel like the pic is off somehow, i just cant put my finger on it. it may be the pp... i love how the wood grain turned out, but wall and shrubbery on the right seem to fake. I would like to hear what anyone else thinks about it. 🙂

I have a feeling that non-HDR version would look great. The HDRs you have look like they're aiming for the artistic look. If so, I pick the B/W. The color one is not appealing to the eye IMO.

To me the problem is that the whole thing is made up of middle greys, there's no dynamic range. What were the far end exposures like (+EV and -EV)?

I haven't done any of these for a while. This is Kilmorich Church in Cairndow, Argyll, Scotland. I think it looks a bit overprocessed, but it's not too far off some of the shots from the day.

I quite like this, even if it does look a bit overprocessed. Has an almost softer feel to it. I really need to starting shooting some HDR.

Nice Joel, the sharpness/clarity here is unreal. Feels almost CG. Can you post your exif data for that shot? One of the hardest parts of multiple exposure HDR is getting it tack sharp, you definitely used a tripod for this, correct?

Sorry, should have stated it was a Faux HDR... Just some topaz adjust to enhance the color/contrast. When i get home i can post up the original if you care to see. 🙂

I shot it in RAW so perhaps i will try an actual HDR out of it, as i do have Photomatix, and Photoshop.

Single image photoshopped to 3 jpgs, then tonemapped in photomatix. after that i imported it back to photoshop and adjusted the curves to medium contrast.

That looks great. It has the perfect balance of colors so that it actually looks real.

With all due respect, that image doesn't look real to me at all. The bright red rock is in the shadow but it looks to be the brightest part of the image. The red looks like it's almost clipping. Also the pink ground in the shadow while the sun is still up? Was there a bright pink wall just outside the photo on the right?
I've seen some spectacular sunsets at the Red Rocks Canyon in Mojave desert this spring and this looks like this might be in that general area (maybe closer to Las Vegas). I'd pull back on saturation to bring the colors closer to reality.

Thank you both for your comments. Im still learning photomatix. gnd you are correct that its Red Rock Canyon, which is just outside of Las Vegas. I think it looks realer than most, but I agree its still off. Honestly i just move the sliders back and fourth and make the adjustments based on what happens to the preview. Sometimes it works better than others. lol.
