Not sure they'd be able to. Microsoft would have a lot to say about it.Just buy OpenAI at this point.
Exactly right. Some of the comments here are clearly misdirected. Siri has been around for 14 years now. That it is still so routinely useless and failure prone is a reflection of the priorities and corporate culture set by those at the top, especially the CEO. I know if I was given a task to fix long-standing issues but found I would not have the actual authority to fix it, I would start looking for another job. Responsibility without authority = scapegoat.Yup, release that in detail. It would rather snow in hell, but I wouldn't be surprised if those leaving were expected to fix failures that were caused by company culture and years-long neglect, indecision what to do with Siri and general lack in focus and sophistication and understaffing when it comes to software - e.g. decisions by upper management who is now under pressure and blaming their underlings and expecting the impossible from them.
So you want to ensure that no high level employee would ever want to work at Apple in the future? That sounds like a great plan.I am sorry to be blunt but Apple should release internal records of these AI employee's failures. Blackball them for having the audacity to not live up to Apple's lofty standards, and jump ship!
I do not particularly care about AI on my devices.Anyone else happy that Apple is behind in the AI race? They have a strategic advantage of not having corrupted their OS by filling it full of AI gibberish like MS and Android. Privacy is the selling point. "We meant to do this, Simon didn't say".
This is all true. But name one AI that is actually making $$. The economic model for AI may still be up for debate.I really think Tim needs replaced. He did a lot of great things for Apple but he has had some major F ups with Siri and Vision Pro.
Apple, once the worlds richest company, is now playing catch up to not just Meta (regarding smart glasses) but literally everyone else when it comes to AI: Microsoft, Meta, Google, Nvidia, Anthropic, OpenAI...AND bloody Twitter![]()
Damn, at this pace, the smarter Siri powered by an Apple LLM won’t come anytime soon…
In my opinion, Apple should keep its focus on local, on-device AI features and eventually a local LLM that does actual work with all you documents and data. Of course, without sending any of those to the cloud. And I think the new M5 is a bold step towards that goal.
absolutely. if this predicted bubble bursts then Apple might actually benefit most. This is all true. But name one AI that is actually making $$. The economic model for AI may still be up for debate.
Agreed. Cook has shown to be against buying companies often, at least valuable ones. But this seems like a good time to do it. Perplexity was mentioned earlier in the thread, not a bad idea. We've always heard of the "war chest" of cash that Apple has. It's time to use it.
Good luck with the deadline for AI.
Why stop at billions? You could create an entirely new tier of wealthf i could predict the future I'd be a billionaire.
The fact that Siri still trails its competitors in basic reliability and usefulness after 14 years has nothing to do with what has been happening in “AI” the last few years. Apple leadership failed hard on this before anyone took notice of AI.This is all true. But name one AI that is actually making $$. The economic model for AI may still be up for debate.
people don't realise that AI models will use all the memory you can throw at it.But you cannot do that, it takes LOTS of memory and power to run these AI models, LOTS. It would be impossible to run them on a phone at present or even iPad to an extent. The tech to do that on a device that fits on your pocket just isn’t there.
Ahaha I was going to comment something similar. ‘List your AI work experience’ oh you worked on Siri? Yeah sorry the position has been filled’'So tell us exactly what you did over at Apple's AI departments. We`d like to do the opposite'
Let's not be silly. I assure you Meta isn't poaching people because they're afraid of some mysterious AI technology at Apple. Apple barely registers as a player in the AI industry--that's why executives are leaving.Maybe you should ask yourself what is Apple doing that we don't know about that Meta is willing to paying so much to steal their employees ...
