The space saved would be very minimal if another lightning port was added, however space would be saved. While Apples designs aren't always symmetrical, they certainly would prefer a symmetrical design.

I thought you were replying to my post above yours with the terribly drawn picture when you started talking about symmetry. Thought you were saying Apple would never go for a cord like that.

I agree with you then. Having two Lightning ports on the phone would be silly. Removing the headphone jack just to add a second Lightning port would be counterproductive.
