They arrived today and they are awesome :D Impressed with the bluetooth range, without even thinking I got up from my desk at work to get a drink and the music continued to stream when I was in the kitchen :)

They are going to take a little bit of getting use to the strange shape though. Will test this out on a run this evening.

Hopefully Apple will pull their finger out and sort out skip/prev support for AVRCP in 3.1 ;)

just got the s9-hd as well. so good so far, but i have an order in for the altec lansing backbeat 903's. they've been getting great reviews. i'll compare the two and give you my $.02 :)

did you get the 903's yet? i'm curious as to how they compare with the s9-hd's.

Bluetooth and headphones opinion

Had to post because I've dealt with bluetooth and sweaty headphones for years.
I've owned the original Motorola MOTOROKR S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones for years. They died on me three times. Twice sent in for replacements, i.e. refurbs back. I used them with the Motorola Bluetooth Adapter D650 For iPod(15 GB White 3rd Gen & iPod classic 160 GB). Aside from dying (volume would not adjust or just plain not work), they worked pretty well. The battery life wasn't great.
Side note: Also used the Motorola Bluetooth Adapter D650 For iPod to stream my iPod classic 160 GB to my car's Sony MEX-BT2500 receiver, which is pretty cool. New iPhone 3.0 OS on my iPhone 3G works too with this receiver.
So when finally getting over sending back S9's, I looked at the Motorola S9-HD, but as someone noted, the S9's are tight on big heads. I went with the Altec Lansing BackBeat 906 - headphones/receiver. At first was in love. Then, a week in, accidentally lost earbuds. Called them and they don't sell replacements and they are custom mold, so can't just go buy similar buds. I was without headphones for bluetooth 3 MONTHS. Altec Lansing (Plantronics) told me it would take 3 weeks for replacements. I called after 4 weeks and they said it'd be another 3 weeks at least, so I convinced them to do swap. They sent another model completely, then finally sent 903's, I suppose in desperation, which the headset was not working, i.e. I'm using someone else's earbuds.... ASIDE from that mess, they cut out and yesterday, just died mid run (fully charged night before btw). When I run fast, not on treadmill, they're terrible and cut in and out. I can not recommend these to any serious runner or bicyclist.
I found this tread by deciding to recede from bluetooth and find a consistent, 'take a beating', headphones that won't blowout or fallout of ear (such as cheap iPhone/iPod headphones).
Love to hear more opinions or follow up on above.

2009/7/17 update!
Mentioned 906 dying during run Wednesday morning, well charged them during day and went to gym last night and headset won't turn on. So now I have two dead headsets, one pair of earbuds, and lone working transmitter. I think I'm gonna go buy the Sennheiser OMX 80 Sport II or PMX 80 Sport II or CX 380 Sport II

fed ex says they are arriving today. if i'm not too lazy, i'll try them out after work and report back afterward ;)

just to note though, i'm not a runner. i use them at the gym on a precore or treadmill and free weights. the poster above me noted it skipping while running outdoors, so i won't be able to comment on that. the headband looks more flexible than my s9-hd's, which would be good for me because the moto's are just a bit too big and i have to take them off while on a bench.

Totally recommend the Sennheiser PMX80's

Awesome sound, and super easy to put on, no fuss, just what you need when running.

No in-line control though.
i have the non-headband version of these (cx-380). of course the sound is great coming form senn, but i hated the cord. it is too "rubbery" and would stick to my skin and then pull at buds. it might not bad as bad w/ the headband though.

ok, i got off my lazy ass and went to the gym after work today so i could test the backbeat 906/903's.

they are definitely lighter than the s9-hd's, and i really prefer how the neckband is. they fit my ears well and i only had to adjust them a couple times while i worked out. the controls are more logically placed than the motos as well. i experienced no cut outs or skipping in my 1 1/2hr using them.

the only thing i did not like was the volume. i'm pretty sure i had it turned all the way up, but it wasn't quite loud enough for my liking. the motos are louder, and i think they have a better overall sound to them as well. the backbeats sounded good, just not as good as the motos.

i'll workout w/ them tomorrow or sunday to get a better feel for them.

Rocketfish

I bought a rocketfish Bluetooth headset, and they fit over the ear and they have a bar that runs behind the head, they fit nice but everytime I turn my head the whole set moves and comes partially off my head, is this normal and then they eventually "break in" ? If it's always ggonna be like that then I'm gonna return them I think and go with the jaybird ones

thanks in advance!

I don't have them, but that doesn't sound normal to me. Headphones are {NOT}supposed to be broken in. If they are falling off your head then it sounds like they aren't working correctly, or your head is irregular...

I just got my Altec Lansing BackBeat 903's in on Thursday and biked with them on friday and they are awesome! However, i have nothing to compare them to since this is my first wireless headset/earphones; but i have no complaints at all. They rock!

I work out with the backbeats every day LOVE em..... I already talked 5 people at the gym with iPhones into buying them and they love em too I have had no problem with the volume plenty loud for my taste only complaint is they push your ears out alittle

how snug of a fit are the buds compared to traditional in earbuds? I drive with the windows open and if there's any gap between the buds and my ear canal, it's no good. Comments? I need a place with a good return policy.

tried them again yesterday at the gym, and the volume seemed better. it was probably my source material initially when i first tried them. the motos are still louder w/ better bass though. maybe i'll just keep both ;)

that REALLY does not seem safe. what ever happened to a car radio?

Klipsch Image X-10. The copper colored ones. Unreal sound and light as a feather. Insanely comfy.
