looks like target and BH have gone back to 349 but saw bestbuy still has the sale price.,. Ordered my second last night and it was delivered this morning

As of this morning 1/2/2019 the $249 price is still there
I had read that Apple had a deal with these outlets to sell for 249, if that’s true I can just guess that the agreement was based on units rather than timeframe, bh and target sold their allotment while Best Buy did not.... speculation, I don’t know, just glad, got one for Christmas and so had the opportunity to get the 2nd

I bought one for Christmas and then decided to get 2 more. Price is wonderful. Just wished tha Apple would come out with a smaller, lower cost version similar to the Google Mini or Echo Mini for non-music use.

But wouldnt you rather have a better , more expensive sound on sale than paying around the same , maybe slightly less, for less sound without a sale price?

I personally like the 8 lb heft to HomePod. Reminds me the thing is stacked with tweeters and that 4" upward facing sub

I cant speak for him, but for me I have a Sonos beam in the bedroom. I would like to completely get rid of Alexa and do Siri only. It doesnt seem worth it to have a HomePod and Beam in the bedroom especially when the HomePod would almost exclusively be used for HomeKit commands. This is where a smaller echo like device would be perfect.

I should clarify... I have a girlfriend who uses Android. If I could convince her to switch to iOS she could just use her iPhone for Siri in the bedroom like I do. Unfortunately, she will not switch. So I need to have something in the room for her to control the devices.

I do agree, I think Apple needs to drop the price on homepod or offer a more casual, cheaper, smaller option. $349 as it stands doesnt appeal to most people. And they're late to the smart speaker game, on top of it. Not everyone is aware of the rolling deal of $100 off at best buy

Note that I am not complaining about the HomePod, but rather would like to have a significantly lower priced unit available that would be used as a smart speaker and not so good at playing music.

Personally I think Apple needs to decide if they want fully in the smart device arena or not. The HomePod is wonderful, just not always the right device IMO.

Gotcha

While the array of microphones is ridiculously good at picking up 'hey siri' in the same room quietly over loud music (imo), I agree, could probably use apple-dot treatment for people that dont just live in small apartments

It does need more of an 'ecosystem' than just pairing multiple HomePods if Apple wants to keep up in this segment

My prediction is that HomePod will just die a slow horrible death, but as long as I can airplay my music to it, I'll be fine given my basic needs :D

I purchased my 2nd at the $249 price from best buy and I love the stereo sound and it works great with my Apple tv.
they are not cheap but are incredible as a pair

It really is great , I think 500 a pair is the price Apple needs to adopt and probably should launch homepod2 at this price point even if it’s very limited changes just to force a fresh look by reviewers in stereo mode. I think two far surpasses anything else on the market
