I had the same issue when I installed iOS8 on my 5S. I had to reset all settings to get it to start counting steps and distance.

All settings for the phone, or the Health part?
I'd like to get my tracking to work, but don't want to lose a bunch of random info on my phone to do so.

Mines also been very temperamental (iPhone 6plus) it is working now but not been very good at all at tracking stairs...its way off compared to other apps, also Fitbit is no longer tracking steps at all and my fitness pal is hit and miss also :(

Let's hope they're updated soon

I don't know if this is 100% what happened, but as far as I can tell it didn't start tracking until I told it my height. After all, it can't estimate your walking distance if it can't guess at your stride length.

How did you do that?

As I said in another thread it probably uses GPS for milage. It was far to accurate my 11.3 miles run for an accelerometer. I'm about to go do 5 or 6 extreme trail miles. Will post results in a couple.

Just go to the medical id section of health kit and add in your information.

Mine started working yesterday but says I didn't 30,000 steps, it around 12,000

Same basic thing happened to me. I think it suddenly started working and just dumped all the data it had built up for the last few days at one time, making it think you did a jillion steps instantly.
