Fitbit not supporting healthkit is a big deal because now many of us will have to monitor two apps to see data that should be working together. So I definitely won't buy FitBit again if they don't change their stance.

So whats the best way to get the message to FitBit? Give the app 1 star noting the lack of healthkit support? Emailing them? Yelling into my Fitbit Flex?

I submitted a tip to 4 different blogs this morning (including Mac Rumors) to try to get the word out. Hopefully some extra buzz around the issue helps wake them up.

So far 9to5mac and iMore have both posted stories on the issue.

The Apple Store sells Fit Bit products so it's weird that they would refuse to integrate to healthkit. But then again, its not nearly as weird that Best Buy has Apple kiosks yet they refuse to support Apple Pay.

Apparently, integration isn't a big deal to these companies.

I love my Fitbit and wear it daily. I can see this pushing some users over to the Watch once it's release.

Nope, already tried it.

FWIW, I had the same problem, and I noticed today that October 4, my weight began syncing from the FitBit Aria scale to the iPhone Health app via MyFitnessPal. That seems to have coincided with an update to the MyFitnessPal app on the same date. However, there are a couple of days worth of missing data--weight values are present in Health on 10/4, 10/5, and 10/8. The weight measurements I logged on 10/6 and 10/7 are not there, though, despite being present in the MyFitnessPal app. So... pretty close?

Would the lack of Fitbit support push people to the $350 Apple Watch or would it push people to the $59 competitor that offers Healthkit integration?

I'm not against the idea of the Apple Watch, but in terms of fitness then a large and expensive watch is exactly what I dont want to wear during a jog or workout.

For people that would want the functionality beyond a fitness tracker I can see this news making the Watch more appealing. Would it be that way for everyone? Absolutely not, but that's why I stated "some."

This is the reply that I received from Fitbit:

Thanks for your question about HealthKit.

We don't have immediate plans to integrate with HealthKit. We'll watch HealthKit closely as it matures and look for opportunities to improve the Fitbit experience. In the meantime we'd like to hear more from you about what you'd like to see in a HealthKit and Fitbit integration. Please share your ideas in ourcommunity at https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Requests/Integrate-with-iOS-8-Health-App/idi-p/319432.

We appreciate your feedback.

Please do let us know if you have further Fitbit product or app integration questions, we will be glad to see them answered.
They could have saved time and just wrote back with a big "**** you" to their customer base.
Fitbit will likely never suppport Healthkit because if they do, it will kill their devices.

they are in a corner.

Either support healthkit and people will not buy the fitbit devices and use the phone instead

OR

Not use Healthkit and people will assume they are behind the curve so they can keep selling fitbit devices
How are they in a corner? I don't get it. Fitbit would just push to Healthkit. Fitbit still does the work, no?

Fitbit sucks for not supporting HealthKit. Now I have to get a new scale. I will never again buy anything from Fitbit. They will be out of business in less than a year.

While I'm not thrilled that they're not supporting health kit it won't cause them to go out of business. There are other users on Android and Windows devices who will still buy them. I'm also sure that a fair number of Apple users will still buy and use FitBit as well.

fitbit shares step data with My Fitness Pal...so it's not like they're anti-sharing.

True they're not anti-sharing. but they don't let the shared data go to another app. It's only between A and B, C can't know whats going on.

FitBit survey

Just received a survey from FitBit inquiring thoughts on Health and if it would be beneficial to shre Steps from FitBit to Health.

As said a few messages up, not signing onto HealthKit won't kill them. There still are plenty of people who are using Android and I guess one or two who are using Windows. They will still use FitBit.

Personally, I believe that iOS 8 Healthkit has made Fitbit irrelevant. I'm an avid Fitbit One user but I'll be honest, I don't see the use of it any longer. What does it do that my iPhone doesn't do now?

They're probably worrying that offering the integration will make people more aware of Healthkit and make people more inclined to ditch their Fitbits in favour of using their iPhones.

oh wow.
i became more aware of healthkit thru other sources, and i wanted to get an attachment for my runs/jogs, cause the iphone 6+ was too bulky.

i was abt to get the fitbit, n when i heard abt this news. i was like... no thank you.

It stays on you. At least the Flex and Force do. I don't always have my iPhone in my pocket whenever I'm moving around. It's normally sitting on the couch or on the coffee table while I'm walking around, going up stairs, etc. That's the perk wearable trackers have over the iPhone's tracking.

I have both the Flex and the Force (currently using the Force) and I love it. While I would like it to work with the Health app, I'm also kinda wondering what the advantages would be if it did. I rarely use the Health app as it is. What would Health app integration add to using a Fitbit?

I like Fitbit's sleep tracking and the ability to count my steps without having to have my iPhone on me at all times, but what do I know...

Agreed. My Fitbit One clips to my belt and is a lot more comfortable than carrying my 6+.

I honestly don't care about the Apple health apps... Already have Fitbit.

You actually set your iPhone down?

Well this is not cool, I've been a staunch fitbit fan mainly due to their great customer support, they replaced my ultra free of charge when I dropped it down the toilet :p Going forward though, you've got to wonder. I like the 'one' as it's a discreet wearable unlike a flex or apple watch but was looking forward greatly to integration of the tracker and scales with health kit.

Hopefully they re-think! There is a place for them in a discreet wearables market and of course the scales but going forward i think they will need to integrate with health kit or be left behind.

It would allow other apps to read your step and sleep data. There are a lot of health apps out there and new ones popping up all the time. Maybe some provide a better interface or charting of your data.

Just remembered that Fitbit offers a premium service so I bet that is why they aren't supporting this. Other apps would be able to use their data to do the same thing.

Still a bad move on their part.
