I prefer the anti-glare. The reflections on the gloss are (for me) an impediment to seeing the screen properly, when doing things like using Photoshop and Lightroom. Also, the glossy screens block up the dark tones, making them just black.

Some will surely prefer the deeper saturation and higher contrast of the glossy displays.

As to rigidiity: I imagine that it's true that the glass adds structural rigidity over no glass – but that the aluminum bezel on the glassless anti-glare screens equally adds back that rigidity.

As for the question of whether the AG is ugly: That's subjective, and it's a bad basis for a decision. Choose what will be more functional for you, and leave looks considerations to your fashion accessories, not your tools.

Thanks mirabella!!

just what i wanted to know! Specifics!

That's a lot different than what you said. Just because the glass "adds structure" to the display that doesn't preclude the anti-glare from being just as stiff/structured.

One could make the argument that the glossy display might actually be more likely to close under its own weight since it adds 0.5 lbs to the screen.

It makes no difference to me which one you prefer. Each has its advantages and I think we have covered them. Your suggestion was that the AG without the added glass structure might be equally structured... which makes no sense. Re read your post and enjoy your AG display!

I wanted to order my new MBP on the first Tuesday they came available - but waited almost two weeks because of this issue - and it literally drove me mad. I spent hours in Apple stores staring at screens. I read every forum entry possible. I examined the lighting in every place I would possibly be using my machine.

Heck, I didn't invest this much soul searching when I got married !!!

Ultimately, I decided what people here have already said - BOTH screens are really excellent but there are characteristics of each which will resonate differently with people. Thus, there is no right answer - but only a right answer FOR YOU.

Finding out what that is is rough if you can't examine the goods live - but there are some decent photos on some of the threads. Just watch out for the ones that try to generate maximum glare on screens by photographing them at angles you would never consider in daily use. Yes, you can make something out on one screen in a maxiumum glare scenario - but how do you feel about them when you are using them normally?

For me the final test was asking myself honestly which screen I wanted to look at all day. I could accept both and be happy with both - but after too much time staring at them both I really felt that one of the two choices was what I wanted in front of me all day. I would just be much happier looking at that screen - so I bought it.

Now, I am not going to tell you what my choice was.... because you need to make your own mind up and anything I could say would have been said 50 times here by other people already. It doesn't add anything. My message is that this is a rough but a personal decision - so get through it the best you can and be happy with the result !!

If you guess wrong... well, some people here have exchanged their machines after the fact. Annoying but it can be done....

Not fair! After all of the struggle you went through it is only fair to help others out by giving your own opinion and why. Plus I was on the edge of my seat waiting to hear which you chose while reading that. Also we have the same initials. Lets hear it.

It's not about my preference, it's about what you said. You said since the AG display has no glass it must be less rigid/stiff than the glossy display. You also said this was stated on Apple.com

What's stated on Apple.com is simply that "The ultrathin, seamless glass enclosure makes the display strong and durable."

How does this preclude the AG display from also being strong and durable?

You're interpreting this as saying "more strong and durable than non-AG" which could be true, but not necessarily.

The reason you could be wrong is simply that the AG's silver bezel could offer as much, if not more, structural support to the screen making it just as rigid as the glossy one. You simply do not know that this isn't the case (and neither do I, but it is a completely valid point that you continue to dimiss for no reason.)

MBHockey.. I'm sure the AG is strong and durable.. just not sure that it's as strong and durable. I'm also sure the AG is going to provide you with years of enjoyment and it is a beatiful display.

But.. would you put your money on the thin band of decorative aluminum around the AG being as good a structure as the edge to edge glass? Of course I can't say I know for sure but if I was I betting man my money would be on the glass.

You must work in a dark environment. Even web browsing on a glossy display 13" unibody macbook at well-lit coffee shops is an chore. Even at full brightness.

Also anti-glare displays have more accurate color reproduction. Wouldn't this be better for someone like you who uses photoshop for work?
Oops sorry I meant to type "Autocad in VMware", but the glossy doesn't bother me.

Nope, i wouldn't.

Since the AG screen's hinge has to resist a much lower moment (because it weighs 0.5 lbs less) than the glossy screen if anything I would say the AG hinge is a bit more stiff than the glossy (provided they have the same hinge...which I have no doubt is the case.)

Too bad. As you've likely learned by now....

All wives start out glossy.
