UPDATE: Okay! So I just talked to AppleCare and it looks like it is a systemwide issue. Apparently the Apple ID system is rejecting ALL certificates right now, thus the inability to login. He told me engineering is working on it and the only thing we can do is hold tight.

Hey all,

So every time I go to write a new email or reply to an email a prompt comes up that says:

APPLE ID VERIFICATION
ENTER THE PASSWORD FOR **********@me.com IN SETTINGS

Options are not now and settings. If i tap settings, enter password, the password takes but then the problem still occurs. If I tap not now, the prompt goes away and I can send an email.

But the prompt is coming up every single time.

And this is the only place it pops up anywhere in the phone.

I've checked and I have no downloads that are stuck, I have deleted my iCloud account from the phone and then signed back into it, and the problem persists.

Anyone got any ideas? It's really annoying to get this prompt every time I need to send/reply to an email.

(I'm on a 6s Plus / iOS 9.1)

I've had no problem using @me up until the issues I'm having today.... and it's still the primary on my apple ID when i go to appleid.apple.com...

Also, I just tried changing the password, which worked for a minute... then the prompt came back. And now I can't sign in on my Mac Pro lol. After entering the new password (which I've verified on appleid.apple.com), it tells me:

This Mac can’t connect to iCloud because of a problem with “****@mac.com”.

Okay so I tried signing out of iCloud on my Mac Pro and then back in, but I used @mac.com because that is actually what is listed on my appleid as the primary apple ID email. It kinda halfway signed in and then asks me for the password over and over and when I enter it, it just says AN UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURRED....

I assume there's no two-factor involved? I had a case where 2FA got sort of stuck and I had to turn it off, log everything in correctly and re-enable it.

i don't have 2 factor set up.... :/ i'm starting to think this is an issue with my Apple ID and not device specific.

It's happening to me as well. Thinking it's a software bug as it's only been doing this since updating to 9.1.

I can't log in on Mac either - lost my time machine back ups too (10 years of information locked on a drive I now can't have access to!!). It's all to do with my iCloud as well - something Apple obviously needs to get fixed!

Oh and I'm suzywongster01 cause my iPad logged me in as a new user on tapatalk..... I've realised now though and switched to my actual account

my dad tried updating my mom's iphone 4s and it bricked in the process.

we restored it but of course it was activation locked. it gives me 1 letter and then ******@icloud.com so i have NO IDEA what email to use.

my mom isn't techsavvy and she never set up icloud, it was all under my dad's name and when we tried to log in on his icloud it wouldn't work.

called applecare and they said they can't reveal the email to us, which imo is a bunch of bs.

i told her the email that i think it is and she's like "ya that's it.. now put the password" .. so i enter the password and it says invalid, yet i can log into icloud.com and enter the same info and it will let me in.

this activation lock is good but i believe there's a glitch somewhere. my dad had to go get my mom a new phone because no one can help us.

the fact that you can login to iCloud.com but not on the phone is related to the issue that they're having systemwide that i detailed above. all we can do is wait for them to fix it :/

Interesting thread, thanks @paulgandersman

I was setting up my sister's new MBP yesterday and came across the same issue.

I know the password was right, because I put it in a Text doc and copied pasted it into iCloud.com without an issue, but copying/pasting the same password on her MBP in the Accounts section wouldn't work (I also managed to use the copied/pasted password to when prompted to do so in the App Store).

I haven't touched it since yesterday because I figured it was an issue on Apple's side, but after reading this, I'll be sure to have another go when I get home later.

Thanks again.

UPDATE - I'm able to login to iCloud on my Mac and the bug on my phone seems to be gone. i think our national nightmare is over!

Good!

I had this issue yesterday. In System Preferences, iCloud was asking for verification. Kept entering my password, and it wouldn't do anything. Will try today to see if it's fixed.

I have the same problem!

Everytime I reboot my device it's asking (once!) for iCloud account verification. Annoying!

Happened after upgrading to iOS 9.1. Both devices (iPad and iPhone) are involved.

I am experiencing this issue with iOS 9.1 only on my iPad Air. It does not happen on my iPhone 6 Plus also running iOS 9.1 or on my MBP running 10.11.1.

I have completely signed out of / deleted my iCloud account and signed out of iMessage and FaceTime, rebooted, and signed back in. It has not resolved the issue. It happens every time I cold boot my iPad.

I first experienced the issue with the final public iOS 9.1 beta. I submitted a bug report prior to GM.

I have the same problem since updating iPhone 6 to 9.1 Also, if I go to iCloud settings I have to enter my password before I can look at my details.
