why can't they make iPods water resistant?

My $30 Timex watch is water resistant. I don't go swimming with it, but if it gets splashed or briefly immersed it will keep the water out! How hard would it be to put a rubber seal around all the openings and buttons in an iPod??!!! I wouldn't take it scuba diving, but just to protect against the occasional splash. Comeon, Apple!

There's still one port of entry you haven't considered: the headphone jack. By design, it must be open to accept a headphone plug and it must have metal contacts that are exposed.

Also, sealing the other components against water entry (hold buttons, etc.) would probably add bulk to the iPod's design.

For the OP: Sorry for your loss. I recommend pausing the game and putting your next iPod in a pocket while you're... ahem... doing your business. I follow this rule with all my electronic devices. I don't answer cell phones or look at text messages when "answering Nature's call."

Sometimes when I'm in the men's room at work, I hear someone tapping out e-mails on their Blackberry in the next stall, and I just shake my head. Or worse yet, they answer a call while still on the toilet. One of the worst things I can imagine hearing on the other end of a phone conversation is "...fwoooOOOSShhhh....", which can only be "bested" by "...fwoooOOOSShhhh-- OH S**T MY PHONE(Blub blub blub) <click>". :D
