Hi i bought iphone 6 but cant sign in with my apple id, i keep getting this message.
This iPhone is currently linked to an Apple ID (f●●●●●@yahoo.com). Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPhone.
This is why I love activation lock. One day, phone thefts will be reduced to almost nil.
Doubt it, because as we see here, people don't do any research and still buy activation locked phones. And they'll always have parts value. Everything in the phone is still good except the main board. Cracked screen? Buy an activation locked iPhone for cheap.

If enough people get burned, then maybe they'll start paying attention.
Thats not the whole yahoo email address.
Most of the email characters are blocked out with ******** for security purposes and for thieves not to be able to abuse victims of stolen devices.
He does not have the owners email address.

Pitch iPhone 6.
Get Android device where this isn't an issue.
Lots of very nice Apple paperweights online in eBay. Good job Apple.
I do recommend the Samsung Galaxy S6.
Paying attention to what exactly? None of this is affecting Apple in a negative way and is seen as a good security feature that most actually see as a good thing that Apple did.

The people getting burned, not Apple. I'm pro activation lock.
As said before. It is possible to bypass the activation. And there are ALOT of stolen phones running around in Asian with bypass activation just waiting to become a paperweight once the owner attempt to restore the phone.
Iphone generally hold their values well and thus ppl in less developed countries try their very best to squeeze every ounce of value out of it.
I'm all for activation lock but those that think this will stop thief in any ways are delusional. It just stop the less educated thief in first world countries. They could always sell it to bulk buyer for $50 who will than shipped it somewhere oversea for bigger profit. Or they could just steal an android phone and flip it the next day on Craigslist.
I think it's Apple's responsibility to have an easy to use online tool to see if the IMEI is iCloud locked or make it easier for people buying used iPhones to check. Many people are uneducated when buying iDevices and sometimes when doing the transaction you're not in the most convenient location to go through the setup routine. Checking with the carrier (Verizon in my case) is not good enough like it was in the old days.
I personally would not buy a used iPhone which in the long run makes it harder for honest people to sale. The only reason why Apple does not make it easy is because they ultimately don't want you buying used phones that they already sold. If it's easy to lock up an iPhone it should be easy to check if it's locked.
