Had both and much prefer the SS. However, much depends on personal taste, when/where/how you wear it, as well as cost. My SS link is mostly worn with formal wear whereas the Sport didn't quite work for me.

I'm not sure I'd buy either right now with v2 on the horizon. Not new anyway. Maybe go used and resell before v2 hits to minimise losses.

Lol! Of course its not bad looking. I can fool 9 out of 10 people from a distance, until you actually hold it in your hand.
Gotta say that's quite a nice option for the price. Had me fooled just scrolling the thread.

I think for a lot people who don't normally wear watches find the less expensive models are more than enough and the people who have worn more conventional watches made of SS will opt for that. If you sift through the threads people with the sport will say it's great and has the same functionality of the SS, and they are correct!

I have a SS.

Thanks for all the feedback. I plan to go with the SS version but will wait until Apple release version 2. I'll pickup a used Sport version for now so I can make sure I'll actually use the functionality enough to justify the price for the SS. Hopefully we'll see v2 in June but I'm guessing it will be Sept.

Why not just get a used SS for a little more than a Sport (you just have to look) and will bump the resale value since come Sept. the casing/screen on an SS will surely be polishable and less scratched than a Sport. Just my two cents.

Good decision I'd say.

The Sport, the SS and the Edition (we can dream, right? lol) all do the same things, it's just really down to material and what you think would be best for you, and what you can afford.
The Sport can withstand being dropped, it's screen is much better in terms of anti glare BUT it's prone to scratches on the screen, whereas the SS can withstand scratching to it's screen, the case you can just polish hairline scratches BUT if you drop this version, the screen will most likely shatter.

I was gifted a 38mm Sport for Christmas, and i absolutely adore it, but i know that when the second gen Apple Watch is released, i'll spend the extra amount to get the 42mm SS.
I feel like the SS is more worth the price to me personally because i'm more prone to whacking my arm off things compared to dropping the watch itself, and it sounds like it's going to be announced in June and possibly released soon after, or in September like you said, so i hope i'll be able to save up for it in time! :D

I ended up getting a used SS off eBay for $415. The guy kept a case and screen protector on it so it's in mint condition. Looking at what most sports were selling for (~$260), I decided to spend the extra money and get the SS. I figure the resale should still be close to that when Apple releases a new version, and if the new version isn't enough of an upgrade over this one then I've already got the one I wanted and saved money over what a new one costs. Now I can't wait to get it in and start using it!

For those watching this thread, since OP has already bought one:

$200 off Space Black SB ($399 for 42mm)
$200 off SS Milanese loop ($499 for 42mm)

38mm prices of these two are $349 and $449 respectively.

I think the whole dropping thing has been way overblown for the SS. First, it's not like an iPhone where you're constantly picking it up, putting it down, pulling it out of pockets, etc. It's strapped to your wrist and stays there all day. Second, they way you describe it would have one believe the screen will shatter with just about any fall. I've dropped my SS onto tile floor a couple of times now and it's been just fine. Third, I've been convinced for years that sapphire is the best material for watch crystals. My 14 year old TAG's crystal looks as good as the day I got it, and that thing has been slammed into more doors an walls than I care to think about.

Are you to type to have always worn a watch? Then the SS.

If you've never or rarely worn a watch til now, then Sport.

Also, I'm personally going to put up the money for an Apple link bracelet if I end up keeping mine past the return date.

I remain unconvinced with the third party bands and the tool-free adjustment feature of the Apple link bracelet intrigues me and I want to try it for myself. So, I would recommend an Apple band, myself.

I actually think this is really good advice. Also there is so much more versatility with the SS watch. The sports only look good, IMO, with sport bands.

I'm just saying that the SS glass screen is more likely to shatter in a fall of some sort compared to the Sport, not that it'd break every time you'd drop it :p

I'm not a watch expert, i haven't worn one since i was a little kid who got a few plastic watches with Burger King meals lol, so i'm not knowledgeable in that side of things, i only know this because of months of reading/watching Apple Watch reviews and comparison videos.

Sucks that you couldn't wait, best buy now has them new with full 1 year apple care for less than what you paid for a used one on ebay. I would of popped a vein in anger if this were me and could of gotten a better deal.

Really? Your Best Buy has new Stainless Steel Apple Watches for less than $400? I'd go ahead and buy as many as you can and resale them for a nice profit.

All best buys have them on sale for $399 right now. SBSS with Sport Band.

$499 for SS with ML.

Actually not sure about the SS but the SBSS is $399 for sure.

Dang - I see that now...
Best buy doesn't seem to have the 42mm stainless version with sport band available for $399. Unless you want to go for a space black, your only option would be 42mm with Milanese loop for $499 plus tax. As long as your used watch is in mint condition as stated, you didn't get ripped off. The only thing you're missing out on is the full year of applecare. If you're lucky the current owner didn't buy it long ago and you still have most of the year remaining.

Just picked up a 42mm SS with Milanese Loop from BB today. $499 is the best price I've seen for a new SS with an upgraded band. I also have a 42mm SGS which I will probably sell.

There is a definite difference in weight between the SS and the SGS. The SS feels much more substantial. I like the Sport, but I always wished that I had sprung for the SS because it's much more versatile when it comes to bands. Really happy with the upgrade.

The one I bought from eBay was the Space Black version. I ended up going to Best Buy and picking up a new one for $399. It was too big a sale to pass it up. When the used one comes in, my wife is going to try it out to see if she likes it. She has a Garmin VivoActive now for comparison. If she doens't like it then I'll sell it on eBay or Swappa and should be able to get most or all my money back once the Best Buy sale ends.

I've got a 38 mm SS and a 38 mm gold sport.

As a petite woman I find my Sport more comfortable to wear since it is lighter. It has a matte surface which would show scuffs more readily so I save it for dressing up when I wear my gold jewelry. I still wear it every day though...the moment I leave the house I usually switch to the gold sport.

Stainless is my all purpose watch and it's really incredibly tough, surviving yard and house work while still looking great. And the sapphire crystal shows no scratches.

the SS has a more classy look and gives you more flexibility in terms of straps. I own a sport one still and will get a SS (or titanium model if they come out) next time round.

To me if you can afford both. I think the deciding factor should be which you like best.

I went with sport space gray first then sport gold after it came out.

End of day. To me the biggest differences are the way they look not case material or glass.
