Here's the situation...

I bought a "broken" Power Mac G5 a few days ago. When I inspected it, I didn't notice any visible damage, so I plugged it in. So far, so good; the Mac stayed on for a while. Since there was no hard drive installed, it couldn't boot into the OS, so I took an old but working hard drive and formatted it to HFS+ using MacDrive 11. Then I wanted to prepare a bootable USB drive. So I downloaded TransMac and the image of Mac OS X Leopard 10.5, which should have been supported.

I plugged in both the hard drive and the USB drive, started the Mac, and held down the ALT key (I only have a regular keyboard).

Unfortunately, the USB drive wasn't recognized, so I tried using Open Firmware. There, it wasn't recognized as "ud" like in the videos. I found this post on the topic, but it didn't really help me:

I got to the last point mentioned by user Strategia, but when I confirmed the command with Enter, the Mac froze.

Unfortunately, I don't have an Apple device to format the USB drive, as I only work on Windows.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance!
