My word. You guys have some of the worst names for computers I've ever heard.

Give it a Roman-esque name or a Biblical name. Examples include Tacitus, Absolom, Tiberius, Caligula, Pontius, etc.

My computer names and network is based on Star trek.

The PC Desktop - USS Prometheus
Older PC laptop - USS Voyager
Mac Book - USS Defiant

Router - Deep Space 9

Network - Federation (if you had not already guessed it)

Oh and yes there is a hidden reason behind why I chose to name each computer the way I did. The ship in some ways relates to computer that carriers it. Yes I am a geek....

Personally I like going with a theme system just because for me it is easier to keep track of everything and lot easier to identity computers that are not mine. Plus the bonus geek factor.

just as a suggestion why dont you just name your computers Prometheus, Voyager & Defiant? becuase when you quickly scanning computers names with your eyes you would see "USS" first and for a split second your brain would be asking which 1 of the 3 computers is this?

and yes that is pretty geeky

ok so some of you asked my hobbies, so.....

Guitar
hockey
lacrosse
gf
macs

my fav tv show is terminator

thanks for the input

EDIT: Did you know caligula means little boots and he made his horse a leader in rome. Just a little fact.....

For the geek factor. When they say the ship to some one else they always call it USS *ship name*. That and if some one ever say they name on the network I wanted to make it clear it is from star trek.

I still wonder if some one can figure out why I choose those 3 ship names for each of the computers.

You're choice

I'm so impressed with my iMac - mine is simple....
Slick

Actually - I'm a history buff, so I've named my computers after WWII Carriers (large machines) and WWII Planes (smaller work stations)

Right now I have two servers:

Enterprise
Yorktown

and 3 snaller PCs

Corsair
Dauntless
Hellcat

You could go on and on with this scheme.......:D

What is your girlfriend's name? You should name it that, but #2. Eg, Ashley #2 or GF #2. It'll probably be the thing you spend the most time with right?

My machines are called:

Bart
Lisa
Homer

.. I presume you can guess what the next one will be called :D

Frankie :D

question: can you rename everything and it not mess up your network? would i have to rename everything (iMac, MB, and network) then resetup my network again? sorry if this is a dumb question...

ok, so i went with alli, for the obvious reasons, the name kinda grew on my. I think It would be kinda awkward to name my computer after my gf.

Thanks

imaccore2

so this thread inspired me to rename my macs... and well since we are Lost fans i went with:

Dharma Initiative - network name
The Swan - iMac
The Hydra - MB
The Tempest - printer
The Pearl - TC

(i feel like such a geek now haha)

Alli was a good choice though ;o)
