These seem to be either the replacement, or just the next model from Altec Lansing: http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=PT6021

They look quite nice, but probably sound identical to the FX6021, the thing that's probably rasing the price is the universal remote, and the fact they JUST came out.

Also from Dell: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0724113

If anyone else has any info on these, please post!

Also, did you ever get your speakers, OP?

Peace

Hey everyone. Looks like patiently waiting paid off. I got an email saying that the speakers shipped friday, and I should get them sometime this week! The PT6021s do in fact look identical to the FX's, other than the fact that they're black. I wouldn't want those anyway. I'll keep you posted.

Let us know if you get the famous hum from the bass unit. I went for the Soundsticks instead.

Skunk, this model doesn't have a bass hum, that was notorious on the MX5021s, but not the FX or PT series....I'm sure you will be happy with the Soundssticks, but should have went for the Altecs.

I beg to differ. This is a review from the Apple Store from someone who bought the FX6021:

Huh, well that must be the first I've seen about this set, but you REALLY can't let that determince your decision, especially apart from all the POSITIVE revies, there's abound to be a bad lemon...just the Soundsticks...so yeah.

Hey! Just got back from FedEx and picked em up! I wasn't home when they delivered so they made me pick them up. No problems. I have a few pics I'll post later. They sound unbelievable, and there are so damn many ways I can customize them. Hmm... I wonder what I'm going to be doing in all of my free time!

Trying to get some good speakers for my new C2D MBP (I will use it at my desk a lot). I need good precise audio for FCP most importantly, but will listen to music, and will play too much WoW. I am mainly tring to decide between Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 and Altec Lansing FX6021. If i could get my hands on the ifi at a good price that would be great, but not counting on that. The Altecs look aesthetically better, haven't heard them yet. I listened to the Klipsch in the store the other day playing BF2 and they were nuts.

Any advice, or know of an even better one in this price range?

The Altecs beat the ProMedias for sure, you may want to check out speakers by Edifier and Acoustic Energy (check out my ealier posts). The Aego M beats the Klipsch, too, so I guess it's whichever one you want, the Altecs or the Aegos =D. Let us know what your decision is.

Orange, do you actually have the Ferguson speakers? If so, post some pics and tell us what you think of them! The new iPod version looks quite appetizing =]

Please don't think that I've got the big ones - I'm getting the 'mini' system, and that's the most extravagant purchase I've ever made. A couple of years ago I wanted a big HiFi, but couldn't quite find the budget for the big ones - I bought a set made by Toyota!

Paid for - not yet delivered (they really are in short supply - the first shipment in September was only 100, and those mostly went for demo and review) But I did go to one of those stuffy HiFi shows and hear them first - I loved them, both for the looks (they aren't small though, >1 foot tall), and the sound is excellent to my ears.

If I ever get them, and tidy my desk, I'll try to post a photo...

K, cool, thanks. Can you post a link to reviews for this product? I can't seem to find any

At the moment they're hard to come by - you're better off googling them, and searching a few audiophile forums.

I second those. These are actually more professional grade than consumer speakers though.

Only newegg has these for $189, although they have been as low as $155 (which is the drop I'm waiting for). Still deciding between these, the aforementioned altec lansings, and that Aego M (which looks sweet).

Well, just remember the respective backgrounds in audio these different companies have. Swan has a background in audiophile equipment. Altec Lansing have always been okay in multimedia. The Aego M's also come from a company with a good background in audiophile equipment. But, i'd trust the Swans, they are clean, no hiss or hum associated with cheap amplifiers that is wrapped in plastic. And, at least they provide all the audiophile stats you may want, on-axis, off-axis dispersion, etc...

155 is a good deal I think, they used to sell for 169 years ago (yeah, these speakers have been around for about 5 years now).

I just won't touch the Altec's at all, might impress you though, if you listen to a lot of radio quality music.

Altec probably gets the most raves since the average consumer is who they target.

Many should also check out Bose speakers. I am listening to the Companion 3, first edition, and they are definatley up there with the Klipsch Ifi, yes you read that right, I have a VERY discerning ear, and can faithfully tell you the Bose, do indeed, have better clarity in the treble, and the midrange is, as you would guess, a little more supressed than the Klipsch, but still definatley there, and highly detailed. The bass from the Bose module is also comparable to that of the Klipsch, Idk what to call it, it's not necessarily 'distortion', I call it warm sounding, it's VERY musical none-the-less. So people, look into the Bose, too. I am a firm believer that Bose makes very excellent and exceptional speakers.
