I got squaretrade insurance for our iphones.... $99 for 3 years and it covers accidental damage.

And you pay $50 if you need the screen replaced...so you're "saving $50" but I bet one of the phones you bought won't break and therefore you'll be out $99+

If you paid by credit card there is a good possibility they will cover the $199 replacement fee Apple will charge. They definitely will if it's an AMEX (been there, done that) and I'm pretty sure most Visa/Mastercard cards will as well.

My wife dropped her iPhone 4, caused a single crack on the front glass within a couple of days on buying one. My VISA card said they would cover the $199.00 it costs to get it replaced at Apple. However when I went to the Apple store he said their new policy is if there is a single crack they are replacing it for free for customers - I think their thinking is that there may have been defects in the glass. Anyway we got a brand new phone for free. Go Apple!!

Someone please clarify this for me.

I bought my iphone4 from At&t.

So if I accidently break my phone, Apple will replace it for free?
What is the time frame do I have to be in? Say its 6months from the date of purchase, will they replace it? Its just hard to believe.

I ordered mine from AT&T on launch date. Dropped it and the screen cracked a couple weeks ago. Took it to Apple Store and they replaced for free.

Wow, thats some great support from Apple and good to know thanks.

You aren't kidding. I was very surprised to say the least.

I was honest with the guy, told him what happened and he said that they would do a 1 time replacement. Took about 10 mins total.

It was my fault and they didn't have to do it. Says a lot IMO.

Then they ship it out as "refurbished." The product is pretty much identical to a new one.
Some would actually argue it's better - the Q&A is more strict on refurbs and each individual unit must past before being reissued.

If it's under the apple care warranty (either the included time or the extended-and-costs-extra time) Apple will pretty much always help you (note, Will-It-Blend re-enactments probably won't be helped).

Free or not generally depends on what kind and the severity of the damage the phone has taken.

I've had some good experiences at the genius bar, always helpful and courteous.

Yeah, some of you guys must have some real hard asses working at your Apple stores. My iPhone 4 was having some wifi problems. (I kept having to reset network settings every two days because my iPhone refused to automatically connect to stuff after awhile.) I took it into the Apple store in my area without an appointment and couldn't recreate the problem. They told me to try to restore it as a new phone and then re-sync all my stuff because they didn't have anyone available at the Genius Bar to help me. I went home and did NOT try restoring as a new phone, but DID make an appointment for the next available time.

I took my phone into the store for a second time and still couldn't recreate the problem for them. They took my word for it and replaced my iPhone no questions asked "just to eliminate the possibility of this being a hardware issue". I should also mention that I was well past my 30 day warranty. I know this wasn't quite the same situation as having cosmetic damage, but they never once saw the problem actually happen and never even bothered trying to test the phone.

The funny thing is that this also solved a problem that was bugging me WAY worse than the wifi problem---my wife had absolutely mangled the bottom of my old iPhone 4 one day by trying to put it on our iHome when it had a port cover on. She put 4 really nice scratches right underneath the port. I tried the scouring pad trick to brush them out, but was kind of unhappy with the results. Problem solved. Brand new iPhone 4, brand new lease on life.
