Thanks - just bought a spindle of 30 Verbatim 8X discs from Newegg...

I'm usually content with compressing DVDs down to 4.7GB, but for some Concert DVDs, I want to make full backups particularly so the audio isn't sacrificed.

I'm not really sure if the compression that Toast does pertains only to audio or video or both, but I'm guessing both...

Cheers.

Wow i cant believe this thread is still going, so just to keep everybody posted it turned out to be my superdrive, after awhile it stopped burning anything all together, so i took it to the apple store and got the superdrive replaced, thank god for apple care :)

im with you

ive got that problem aswell on my unibody macbook. I cant burn dual layer discs. ive talked to applecare and they are going to replace the burner. everyting grinds to a halt over the christmas and new year so ill live without burning DL discs for a month or so.

it seems to be a semi-common problem at the moment. it is giving errors when it gets to the second layer when under windows, osx and on several applicaitons for each OS
