@sochet

I'm not really sure how you detected emotion and tone of voice in an electronic post. I guess you did not see my signature thanking everyone in advance and respectfully yours, Desmo1098. I've tried to emphasize objectivity, which means without emotion or personal prejudice. Since you have decided to label me a douche bag it is my understanding you do not know the difference between objectivity and subjectivity.

If I offended you please explain to me how I did this so I make sure I never do it again.

I rely on many of the members in this forum for expert unbiased advice. I needed urgent help when I posted this and needed to emphasize that area in the Mac Pro I was talking about. Then the thread started to get off topic so I asked that it please stay on point, nothing more nothing less.

Maybe I misunderstood something. If I did please tell me so I can correct it. In addition I'm sorry for the high resolution pictures I was not able to use my Mac Pro to quickly scale them down or just redirect with a link. I guess some people are still using dial-up Internet so it takes some time to load the page or I could understand if you have a smaller display it would be hard to maneuver. I'll make the changes.

Thank you,

Desmo

The issue with being objective is that the resulting written text can give an air of superiority (if you can call it that) since the purpose of objectivity is to look down on the issue from a higher position...

Subjectively speaking of course ;)

Plus, to the Desmo1098... you're posting on the Internet... on a public forum... on a site dedicated to rumours. It might be best to lower your standards a bit (unfortunately) ;)

Oh, and I think it's a terrible misunderstanding on sochet's part (think carefully w.r.t the comments about talking in caps).

@alphaod

Thanks for your response... I see so the temp info comes through the on-board SATA connector?

So I have found a way to work around it if is EMI, I believe it's safe to close the thread. Thanks everyone for your help. I can move forward now with this info.

Once I finish with my endeavour I will share with the community. Thanks again

Desmo

Hard drives have built-in temperature sensors, so that's the temperature you get with iStat. Many SSDs do not have temperature sensors (since they don't produce much heat), so you won't get any temperatures reported.

The Mac Pro does have temperature sensors in and around the HDD bays themselves, but those are not attached to the HDD in the bays; that flaky piece of metal isn't much of a conductor of heat.

Thanks Vylen for sharing, I'll keep it in mind for the future...:)

Well,

The pictured I don't mind at all. (I'm and audio man myself, and only just realised you can re-size images in preview :p )

I think Vylen summed it up pretty well. I know you wanted to know what it categorically is, but I think that was a pretty objective question in the first place.

I think we should reserve posting HELP! in a subject to when your Mac pro is on fire :p

So come on, tell us why you need to know! :D

I'm trying to design a new solid state product. During the design overview, when comparing it to a conventional HDD I could see that when mounting the HDD this metal tab was "engaged" but I did not know what for.

I thought originally it was a switch of some sorts to tell OS X something about the drive being there. My product form factor is 2.5" so when mounting my prototype it did not even touch or engage that metal tab. Unfortunately I only have two Mac Pro's to work with my main machine which I just purchased and a 2009 Nehalem. So needless to say I'm playing with fire a little bit here because I could damage the 09 Nehalem. But so far so good... I can't really share more about the product yet because it's being funded.

It most likely won't see the light of day for years. There are some significant challenges with manufacturing.

Now that's something I'd never thought I hear someone say! :eek:

I have no idea what you're building (obviously) but would you consider 3.5" factor? I think it would make a lot of people happy!

If you had come in and said what you just said, you would have received a much warmer, and probably more thorough, response. The fact that we were all wondering why it was so immediate is what spurred the jokes and comments :) We were all hoping for a good story to back it up :D
