I recently uninstalled vmware fusion and afterwards noticed that the little icon on my menu bar is still there. I tried clicking on it to get to the "applications menu settings" section, where I could presumably remove this, but since I uninstalled it doesn't do anything.

I also tried holding command and dragging it off the menu bar - nothing.

My googling has given me solutions for it, but only if the software is still installed. Is there some way around having to re-install it to fix this? That would be a pain because I no longer have the disc.

Maybe there's some file I can delete or something I can kill via terminal? Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to Settings => Accounts and select your account.

Then go to the tab that says "Login Items" and select VMware Helper. Once selected click the - button and save changes.

    Reboot and it's gone!

How did you uninstall VMware Fusion? If you did this by deleting it from the Applications folder than you did not uninstall it, you simple removed it. In that case, reinstall it and then uninstall it by using the official uninstall tool (it's in the same VMware Fusion image you need to install it). You need to do this to remove the menubar icon as well as a kernel extension, some services and some network devices.

Just mount the dmg file and you will see the uninstall icon there.
    Click it and you're done.
