Hi all.
I am a total newbie to Mac etc. I just got a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. As i got it 2nd hand i wanted to put it back to factory settings. I was attempting the process of hold CMD & F together. I was following some instructions and was a little head of myself and deleted "VOLUME GROUP" then i did something else and now i have nothing but a flashing folder when i hold CMD & F.

Think i have killed it.
Any help please.
Thanks

Flashing folder means it can't find anything to boot. You're going to have to make an install usb and reinstall. Easiest way to do that is with a mac, a 16gb usb stick and http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/
Note that you do not need to patch high sierra to run it on a 2012, the tool just provides an easy way to download the installer and prep the usb stick. You could also go with Mojave or Catalina with the relevant dosdude tool, but you will not be able to boot from an apfs volume till you've updated the bootrom via a fresh High Sierra install while connected to the charger.

Well you're in for a hard time then. It can be done, with a moderate amount of difficulty, but I am no expert at it so cant advise. You'd be best to put a Facebook ad up asking for a High sierra install usb if you have no friends with a mac.

Thanks. I do have an iPad Pro which I just got and bought an attachment which gives me connections for USB 3.0, HDMI, 3.5mm Sound, SD/TF, 2x USB-C perhaps I can use that?

Like the post right above this said, use internet recovery to reinstall the operating system. Start up holding command-option-R.

got it thanks

I've never seen a Mac keyboard without an option key. That key with the funny shape may be the equivalent of the option key.

What is the keyboard's language; i.e. UK, Arabic, etc.?
It's the "alt" key. Marked with alt, and either the word "option" or a strange symbol.

Got it now folks thanks very much I have managed to get back the MacOS Utilities Screen.

Well I thought I got it. Idid get the revolving world and got the MacOS Utilities Screen. Don't know what I have done but I can't even get the world back by holding the cmd+option+f. Just keep getting the flashing folder

Got to the Disk Utility and have Internal Macintosh HD (APFS Volume APFS 499.76GB) (Disk Image Volume Mac OS Extended macOS 10.15.4 2.01GB) and underneath macOS Base System on left hand side. I did try reinstall macOS but says it wants internet connection. Yet if I select get help online it goes straight to the internet which I find crazy. Am I missing something

Great, you're making progress!

You're not missing something, though something is amiss. You likely have something to troubleshoot regarding the internet connection - try a restart of your router, connect via Ethernet.... Apple's download servers are sensitive to your system's date, time, and time zone settings, but when you're in Recovery that info should be auto-populated (you don't have GUI-based access to System Preferences while in Recovery). You can open a Terminal session while in Recovery and check the system date/time/time zone and adjust if necessary (but I'd have to look up the specific commands).

will await further instructions. like I said if I select "GET HELP ONLINE" my internet works fine but if I select Reinstall macOS it wants an internet connection. Thanks.

I have now sorted things out and up and running. So a big THANK YOU to all who have taken their time to answer my questions and those who have given information.
Kind regards
Tony
