I dropped the phone on a rock that I was sitting in while surfing the web. It has two small scratches and gouges. I did not think it would bother me but it really does. Any ideas on how I can get them out or if Apple will let me exchange it.

This is a white 3G 16GB iPhone by the way........

:(:apple::(:apple::(:apple:

i'm still trying to figure out how does one sit in a rock..................

Apple DOES not cover clumsiness or user damage

If you are going to be snide at least use proper grammar

Sitting ON a rock. If you are going to be snide about someone being snide, you might want to make sure you're not living in a glass house.

As for getting Apple to replace it...Are you serious? I read my warranty and I'm pretty sure it doesn't cover you dropping it. Do you really think companies should be required to replace merchandise that customers break? Warranties cover MANUFACTURING defects not user mishandling.

:pIf you are going to be snide, at least use proper grammar.:p

You would think that after years of hypocritical admonishment, the self-appointed Grammar Nazis would learn to keep their mouths shut, as their corrections and claims always come back to bite them in the ass.

Then again, I have a bit of a problem with some things myself, such as those that mistake "have" for "of" (should of, must of, could of, etc.). When one types "should of" instead of "should have", it reveals one's ignorance of the English language. It tells me that one has never thought about meanings of the words one chooses.

But I digress...

Do you, OP, really think that you are entitled to a repair or replacement, even though you admit that the damage was of your own doing?

I think the OP does, and the OP is not alone. I see more and more threads started by people who believe that Apple should replace their phone no matter what. Apparently, Apple has the best warranty program on earth. If you lose, break, or have your phone stolen....Apple will replace it! :D

You might want to check with your credit card company. I know that American express covers accidental damage for 90 days.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

The 3G's glass should be relatively inexpensive to replace, as it is not glued to the LCD as was the case with the 1st gen phone.

If i crash my Infiniti, is Infiniti going to give me a new one?

No.

I crashed my Bentley Continental GT, do you think Bentley will replace it for a new one?

If I crash my Daewoo into a lake, will I get a new one!!!!?!?! ??
.... MAN I love people's originality.

I think the problem in this situation is the way Apple is so quick to throw out replacements. For the most part they're pretty good with handling manufacturers defects and other issues covered by the warranty, but I think people coming in with the "I went to see a genius and my phone was replaced no questions asked!!!!" type threads are giving some sense of false hope. Try searching for replacement threads containing stories of dropped and shattered phones being replaced or geniuses being sympathetic cuz some dude's chihuahua took a leak on his phone. I think your findings will be slim to nil.

no but according to the contract that you signed when you bought it you are given a set amount of time, from when you reported it wrecked, to get it fixed or scraped before Bentley comes and takes it from you. If you read the contract you would know that you can not drive a wrecked bentley. Maybach, ferrari, and many others have this same agreement.:D

this is the ****ing internet, who cares about grammar **** with the grammarhammers

How bad is it scratched? The gouges are probably not going to come out, but if the scratches are not too deep you can get them out.

well, it's because the OP tried to correct someone's grammar, then insulted them, even though the grammar and reply were both correct; and the OP also asked a stupid question, as you can seen by many responses here: "I burnt my house down, will my builder rebuild it for free?"

Anyway, you can get replacement parts from ebay, simply search iphone 3g glass, they're selling for around £10

I still dont know what that means, and it is infinitely irritating. I'm struggling to think of a more pointless way to waste energy than coming onto a forum, clicking reply, typing four random letters and clicking post. Would you 'say' that to his face in a real conversation? I'm not even sure it's possible.

If any thread sums up the small mindedness of people who regularly use forums, its this. All those frantically bashing their keyboards in an attempt to produce the wittiest retort, give the guy a break.

My reply - I know exactly how you feel mate, it's horrible when you damage your new toy. The reality is, you'll never get it replaced on that basis. I'm not aware of any way of polishing iPhone screens, and the truth is, even if you can, it's never going to be the same. However, you'll learn to live with it, and it may even ease your experience of owning an iPhone; first scratch is the hardest to deal with but then at least it's worn-in ;)

Anyone want to pick fault with my grammar or point out were i've been 'pwnd'?

I paid $200 to get my 7 day iphone 3g replaced... my friend dropped it and cracked the screen

It should give you an idea of what PWND means ;)

Update

Walked into the Apple store and told them of this issue as well as several others and I walked out with a new white 16GB 3G iphone.

Those that actually tried to help I thank you.

A huge piss off to those that said pwned or threw their worthless .02 in
