Anyway, they should perform more or less the same (same cache, same clock speed, same generation...), I don't know why your reference conclude there is 5% difference.

However, X5690 can easily handle at least 14% more RAM on a single processor 5,1 now,(may be more in the future) this will definitely make the Mac able to perform better.

Pretty much how I felt reading that also. Washers help but hard turns and 4,1 do not make a cheap fix. I learnt that the first time years ago and it cost me a single processor board, a dual costs much more.

I do the first few turns relatively quickly then it's almost down to gentle 'hours in the day' turns until spectrum is green!

^^^^Your are wrong. The 4,1 and 5,1 CAN use "W" series CPUs they can also use "X" Intel CPUs as is stated above. No Crazy Fool here, except😱

I am knowing that you can use both W series and X series CPU in MacPro single CPU system , but he said he damaged a single CPU board by over screwing. You do not need to use any washers as the original 2.66 CPU had a lid on it and the ones to replace had a lid on it

Or maybe GayMack can't count properly !!!!!!!!!
