They'll never know it's unlocked unless you tell them - they can't see anything but an error message let alone a home screen - just keep schtum.

Get it to an Apple store and say you were happily AT&T'ing away when suddenly.....

good luck, let us know how you get on!
Is this statement based on some inside knowledge of Apple store procedures? It seems entirely reasonable that Apple could have provided the stores with software that can check the validity of the firmware on the phone.

I doubt that's possible in the case of a hardware failure such as this and an aweful lot of effort to go to. They can tell when people bring in unlocked 1.0.2 phones that got bricked as a result of the 1.1.1 upgrade as they all had the same symptoms - This is not a symptom of the 1.0.2 - 1.1.1 upgrade so hopefully the OP should be fine (Hopefully!)

That was my first reaction.

Yeah, its really quite simple. Don't screw with it in ways its not meant to be screwed with...and you will NOT have problems, ever.

I really don't understand why there isn't a dedicated forum to this garabage, tucked away somewhere where normal iPhone users don't have to read it.

Seriously, how many "I have problems" threads titles do we read across every iPhone forum... that changes your perception of the device simply through osmosis, but its completely inaccurate. Too many folks with hacksie cracksies that expect us to help them with a problem they caused.

Ugh.:apple:

Then why is this problem in question seen in "normal" iphones that have been near magnetic cases as people have pointed out here.

Companies release devices, people hack them - just a fact of life. I imagine the Apple discussion groups should be free of hack-talk.

Why make blatantly incorrect assertions? Are you honestly trying to claim that there has never been a problem with an unlocked iPhone? Good luck with that.

for god's sake people! If you don't have anything good to say or advice to offer, just be quiet.
