You're getting this upset over a phone that your friend owns?

When my friend tell me that it his iphone was ****ed and the only thing it shows is connect to itunes we made a bet.
i know a lot of this, longtime iphone user... and never heard of something similar, i just thinked he didn't know how to restore, he even didn't know what dfu mode, and i also thinked that he couldn't restore because of apple ****** servers as a lot of users were reporting here on MR.
why i am upset? because i spent more than 14 hours no spleeping trying this. not for the bet, because all the time wasted for nothing. And as another iphone user i would not like that this happens to me.

I did read your original post:rolleyes:

I still say your choices are limited and your will likely have to get it to Apple to fix it.

Thanks anyway:apple:

Lmao op wanted help and comes off smug.. Lmao

wow! i did not want to be rude guys, i sayed thanks anyway for taking the time to reply to my problem. it was not ironically or something like that, understand that English is not my native language, sorry if it sounded bad, it did not was my intention.

----------

Is this your phone or your friends phone?

friends phone, i just treated like mine later because it should not make any difference in the solution and if i say my friend bla bla probably i would get less help than if it is myself, i don't know why i thinked that way but thats it.

Just talked to a friend yesterday who said something similar happened. In his case, he was trying to update a 5S to 8.0, what he didn't realize was he hit the hour-long window where 8.0.1 was rolled out (and maybe Apple pulled the update while his phone was in the process of updating). The phone was completely bricked. He took it to the Apple Store and they immediately gave him a brand-new 5S after a very short examination confirming it would't boot, which tells me they'd seen this problem before and knew what it was.

As far as I know, the government in Argentina has restrictions on the types of phones that can be sold in your country. Sounds like you bought this phone elsewhere and took it back to Argentina. If this is the case, I'm not sure how it's anyones fault but your own.

yes you are in someway correct. but ebay argentina has plenty of iphones.... it is not illigal to have an iPhone per se, you can bring whatever you want if you travel, the thing is the carriers can't sell phones that are not assembled here.

but this is ********, is not my fault. i just tried to restore the iphone, it is something that should be straightforward... it does not matter my location.
i would be upset in the USA too for having to go to an apple store, it is not the way it is mean to be.
i can understand that a hardware failure can happen, electronics fails, it would be more normal.
But if apple says "hey your update is ready, click install!" you click install and the phone no longer works... i can't imagine how thats a fault of mine...

Thank you for your time HiRez. yes i think the same is going on in my phone.

Also... your comment did not help for anything, i would really appreciate if you and everyone focus ON the problem and how to resolve it, i don't know why you would comment that, do you like to discuss because its free doesn't you?...

and please tell me in which way is my fault to be born in Argentina?

If you have a hardware issue warranty service should be considered.

There is nothing wrong with the fact that you were born or live in Argentina. The problem is that you need warranty service for a hardware issue on your phone.

You CHOSE to buy a phone that was unsupported in your country due to the laws in your country. Either you need to deal with the fact that warranty service is going to be more difficult because of the fact that you bought a phone in a country where the manufacturer doesn't offer support, or you need to do what you can to change the law.

Additionally, back to the issue, errors during the restore process usually point to a previous hardware problem. The new version of iOS had nothing to do with the defect that was already there.

Well the thing is it really is not hardware with iOS 7 it was perfectly fine.. i even tried iOS 8 and was fine but cellular signal didn't work how are the chances of a hardware fail exactly in the 10 minutes that take to restore an iphone? and even more how much iphones fails? i think the possibility of all this tighter is like 1 in 100billions and if something fails i think it would not even boot up or display something different, idk. I think i was very unlucky and tried restoring in the one hour window of iOS 8.0.1.. that makes more sense to me.

Just because the issue showed up when iOS 8 was installed doesn't mean it was caused by iOS 8. You can't "brick" an iPhone unless something is wrong with the hardware. If something wasn't wrong with the hardware, you could just force the phone into DFU mode and restore.

The issues reported for cellular and TouchID were related to the iPhone 6 and 6 plus. Your 5s would most likely work just fine.

i know that the issues where for iphone 6. Buy my iphone has issues to with cellular signals. it was on "searching" for more than 12 hours i even tried the sim on another iphone and it worked fine, i had no touch id issues.
also i have to point out that my iphone is the A1530, not A1533. maybe because it is a different firmware i could have different problems.. idk

Well i have a VERY strange problem: while updating an iphone 5s to iOS 8 something did not turned well: i updated the iphone, then i had no signal so tried to restore and know is stuck...

The iphone now is in recovery mode, doesn't boot up. When i try to restore from itunes it always gets stucked at the end of the process. The bar of "restoring iphone firmware" stops at 99% or 100% i think and i can leave it there for hours and nothing happens... i already tried:
1) In dfu mode
2) In other 2 different windows machines
3) In other wi fi network.
4) Entering the line: sudo nano etc/hosts on terminal
5) Opening an other app that communicates with iphone to "kick in the butt itunes" as this video says: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MscLL_tkSww

side note: wi-fi sync is not installed on my computer(i read somewhere that it could be a problem)
i don't know what else to do, take the iphone to an apple store is not an option as there is no apple store in my country... i went to an authorized reseller and they say the didn't know what to do, they had the same problem.
all this makes me think that it is apple fault....
i can't believe this ****, Apple literally ****ed up this phone with iOS 8. it has no hardware damage as it was perfectly fine in iOS7.....
I tried everything i could think. any other ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Apple gives a 1 year warranty. If its a 5s its been just about a year, likely less. Take it to apple quickly.

if no apple store call Apple then they provide support over the phone and can send a replacement. But i think an authorized reseller should be able to do the same as a store.

What version of OS X and iTunes are you using to try restoring it? I saw that you tried it on two other windows PCs. There was an issue recently with a version of iTunes bricking phones with an iOS 8 beta. I did it to my iPhone 5. After updating to the newest version of iTunes the restore worked.

OS X 10.9.5
itunes 10.4(18)

on one of the windows machines itunes was installed today too.
Since i started the thread i already tried 6 different computers, all with itunes up to date, both mac and windows. 4 different networks too. With ipsw files downloaded from other sites and the one that itunes downloads in all machines. I also tried with another USB cable now.
with that in mind the conclusion is:
the iPhone is bricked literally, it has nothing to do with anything external to the device itself, all chances where taken in consideration it is always stuck at the same spot, i never even receive an error code.
The thing is... maybe with the next iOS release it works.. who knows.
I have done extensive searching on different sites, this happened to some people (here in MR included) but they didn't found a solution.
Maybe if i remove the battery.... who knows... removing the battery usually solves a lot of problems in other phones but i am not doing that, it is not for me i think and i want to leave it as last option.

One user stated that he spent 3 months trying and after a couple of weeks of no trying when it has no battery he tried and it worked... but it is a long way, as it been connected a lot of time and in no use i would assume that is 100% that would take maybe a month to discharge.

Thanks to everyone. Keep helping please.

And you have tried the iOS 8.0.2 as well as 8.0 install files? Sorry if you already said this.

Why the bump? What are you looking for here? If it's broken so only Apple can fix it, you're going to have to return it to them somehow. I recall someone having this problem before and Apple let them put the price of an iPhone on a credit card so they could ship a replacement, which they would refund once they received the broken phone.

Years ago I had an upgrade problem similar to this upgrading a jailbroken phone. The solution was to do like two back-to-back dfu restores. I surmised that it had to replace the hacked boot loader, then fail and boot the Apple boot loader, then it would work. Note that this was dfu restore, then reenter dfu mode and restore again (not just let it boot into recovery on its own after it restarted from the failure).
