I’m excited about this phone although I’m keeping my 16P. As an early MBA adopter it had a lot of flaws but it was still special and the rest is history. The Air feels like it could take the same route. The next iteration or 2 could be great. I’m glad Apple offers something for nearly everyone from the E to the Pro. Complaining about choices is silly.

Very interesting about the different Dynamic Island location. The iPhone 17/Pro’s faster charging requires a PD 3.2 charger, currently the only one on the market is the new dynamic 40/60w charger that Apple just started selling.

Unfortunately for me, the single speaker is the biggest dealbreaker on the Air. I hope that can be addressed on future revisions.
I’d reckon any charger for MacBook would work just fine. I’m using one to charge my iPhone and don’t see any negative impact on battery or thermals. I have some just for recharging purposes, given I have 3 devices and 2 power banks all USB-C.

Sacrificing a bunch for it to be thinner... and I'm not even sure why I would want by phone to be thinner?
And let’s not forget an iPhone can only go so thin without sacrificing major features and battery life. Would anyone use an iPhone without camera in the back and half the size of the battery these days to achieve 120g device weight?

All very minor things. Absolutely nothing significant lost for the gain in design and weight, in my opinion.

I actually think a bigger loss is the lack of RAW photos (assuming I have read that right on Apple’s website).

USB2 sounds bad on paper but how many folk really transfer masses of data to their iPhone via the cable? I know I haven’t done so in years.

Having fewer cameras is a nice selling point, for me, of the air. I am generally only happy with photos from the 1x lens on my 15 Pro anyway, so I think losing the other cameras will be fine. Although, I have enjoyed the stereo speakers so losing that might feel like a downgrade.
Since Apple started with multiple cameras the “extra” camera/cameras have usually been lower quality (smaller sensor / slower lens / no stabilisation etc), so photos have usually been worse compared to photos from the “1x” / main camera.

I think 17 Pro is the first time they’ve put the same sensor in all 3 cameras.
So there should be a lot less of a “penalty” for shooting wide/long now.

5.4” screen vs 6.5” with much more packed inside. Not really a comparison.
Plus people who get the mini got it for it’s overall smaller footprint. The 6.5 inch screen is a no-go zone for mini users. Even the 6.1 was an issue. Now it’s impossible to find anything smaller than 6.3. It’s ridiculous

The C1, while slower, was a little more energy efficient. Signal Reception seems to be ok too. I am expecting the C1X to be even better.

Combined with A19 Pro, C1X, N1. I would expect Air to be more efficient than 16 Pro. So with that in mind,

The Air ~3100 mah, the 16 Pro ~3600 mach should have similar battery life, or may be just slightly less than 16 Pro,

If that is the case I say Air is actually not bad. And we can look forward into the future for even more energy efficiency OLED, SoC and never Battery Tech. That would make Air perfect.

I am really looking forward to al the iPhone review this year. It has been a long long time since the iPhone produce range was exciting.

the air only exists to help further guide people to getting the pro. The pro is a far better value than the air is. Maybe not because the pro is a value but because for the extra $100 it's so much better than the air.
Er not at all. Otherwise it would be called the iPhone 17 Air wouldn’t it?
It exists to solve a specific problem and serve specific needs. it’s not a staircase kind of device.

USB transfer speeds should have been higher. Don't think that one less GPU core is going to be noticed by anyone. Think it is a good iPhone.

I don't see one single reason to get the Air... except being thin and being the same reason people get an Hermes Apple Watch; to show-off they have money; which, it doesn't make sense; but even with that, seems like a silly purchase. Maybe I'm missing something

I'd like to know, why people will get it, I'm very curious.
Here’s one very good reason…

USB 2 speeds would be a deal breaker for me but that’s only because I don’t use the cloud..

I suppose it’s still quicker than the cloud though

I was a Pro Max user until the 14 series came along and i went down to a Plus model and stuck with that to this day with the 16 Plus. I like having a bigger screen than the standard models so if i do want to have the extra speakers, the one extra gpu core, the faster usb speed and the bigger battery i would have to pay 250 euro's extra over the Air to get one. That's a big difference over the Air and basically i don't care about everything i mentioned except maybe the battery but i can use my current iPhone 16 Plus for over two days before having to charge it so why bother.
For most people the Air will do just fine even with these so-called lesser functions.

I ordered an iPhone Air 256 GB in Spaceblack and i will be fine with that until September 2026 when the 18 and second generation Air all drop.

Apple can bring out the Air because it provided a very good base model and speced out pro models. You have totally reasonable options to choose from.

And then you have the unreasonable emotional alternative driven by desire and design.

Try and see this see this as a whole.
Thank you Apple for providing this AMAZING LINEUP.

The real question is whether Apple made the right compromises. Which of them will people actually notice right away, aside from the lack of stereo audio playback? I’m curious to see where the journey with the Air goes. And yes, no doubt, the Air will play a key role in paving the way for next year’s foldable. Still, I find this category very exciting.
