Consumers are ALWAYS pushing back. However, it’s not nearly enough to counteract the consumers that have already purchased them. Folks say “make your voice heard with your wallet”, but that only works if enough people agree with your voice :)

Are the earcups on the Sony’s replaceable? Because that’s a thing I realllly hope other companies copy, like TOMORROW.
I think consumers did push back around 2017-2019 years, in result forcing Apple to get their sh** back together (somewhat) to start making better phones again, and not just regurgitated crap with incremental updates. Same goes for the iPad.

The price is absolutely astonishing. I really hope at some point consumers start pushing back. As for looks, it's ugly, but it's Apple. Apple no longer like making good looking products. A phone with an ugly notch, airpods, and now this. Beats were ugly, but they became insanely popular. These will also be popular. They go for unique designs so people can identify an Apple product from a mile away. Also, I assume they sound garbage for that price.
Problem also is the ugly price. Just rang to complain to Apple about the ridiculous price they charging $899 here in Australia and the agent said to me he gets me he went out and bought Sony headphones even he would not pay the price. Gave me this address to leave a complaint and I hope there’s more of you that will join in and complain about the ridiculous price and look. https://www.apple.com/feedback/airpods.html

The upgrades are just as incremental as they’ve ever been, though. I mean, if you wan’t to see that things have changed, then I guess you can point to... Lidar? 5G? But those are things that were coming to the phone regardless of what happened 2017 to 2019. On top of that, the phones have been continuing to set records regularly. Even when there’s a dip in unit sales, the profit is still growing.

There was enough pushback with the gold Apple Watch Edition at $10,000 that you will never see one of those again, but that is an extreme case.

This product is way overpriced, however they will sell them. They won't be a hugely popular item at the current asking price, but Apple will still make big money on them. Why? Imagine the profit margin built into these headphones?

I don’t even see that as pushback, really. It was the introduction of the Apple Watch and some of the folks they wanted to gift them to (for marketing purposes) were fans of gold. They had a production run of them for giveaways and for those that REALLY wanted to buy them, then they were done.

It’ll definitely be profitable :) Apple has baked that into the price. They have an idea how many they’ll sale over it’s lifetime and the price reflects the R&D plus the profit they want to make off of it.

C'mon guys, enough with the price complaints. Yes, they're "expensive" for what they are. But that's Apple. They sell both (relatively) affordable stuff and exorbitantly priced items like these.

I get that it sucks if you want them and can't afford them, but to complain about this is kinda moot at this point.

I will never own AirPods, AirPods Pro, these cans, an Apple Watch (until recently..I might consider the SE), the Apple monitor with or without stand, a Mac Pro with or without wheels, nor an iMac Pro, all due to the pricing on those devices.

But hey, if someone has the money and it makes them happy (or more productive) then I say more power to them.

I also can't blame Apple for doing what a company is supposed to do: make money any way they see fit (in an ethical manner of course).

I do agree that the name is awful though, as are most Apple recent naming conventions. I really hate the "Max" and (the obsolete in my mind) "Air" crap.

Smacks of Microsoft "series"-ness.

What proportion of customers that buy these are thinking they are getting £550 worth of headphones and what proportion are buying them to show that they can afford to spend £550 on a pair of headphones?

I think the headphones are beautiful and I don't doubt they sound amazing. But that price is pretty tough to swallow. My wife and I make good money and I'm a huge Apple fan, so I'll usually go for it if there's something I really want. This one will be hard to justify. I'm holding off, for now.

Is there a $999 headphone stand available?
