iPhone mirroring works in EU in 18.1
At the same time, in update description, it is stated that Apple Intelligence in EU wouldn’t be available right now. WTH?
Within EU, we can use all other AI services without any restrictions. What’s so special about Apple Intelligence. It is in fact ChatGPT under the skin and Open AI works in EU. Damn Apple!

So confused. Am in the UK but ios18.1 developer beta showed up so I downloaded and installed it. But it doesn’t have any APple intelligence features at all. I rebooted too🧐

Probably because your phone isn't compatible for it. It says only certain phones who get that feature. I think its mainly iphone 15 and 15 pro etc. not iphone 14 or below even though those phone do get ios 18
Not even the iPhone 15. For now, only iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max can run Apple Intelligence

It’s disabled there. You have to set your region to America and Siri language to American English. They are holding these features hostage for Europe because they actually have privacy rules. Shame on Apple for doing this, after the very intelligence was trained on the UKs open web data without their permission and for no credit.

It’s probably RAG+LLM.
Essentially, what happens behind the scenes is that it looks up some articles in a database. Then it supplies the article with your question, and asks the LLM to answer your questions with the article.

The step using the LLM requires a larger memory.

Does it require LLM? Maybe not, but everyone is using LLM to do these.
But is there any reason to run this particular part on device instead on Apple servers?

Probably cost. Apple is only letting you to run AI on server if AI is available on device.
They will probably only run on server side if absolutely necessary. Or if you purchased or recently purchased a device so they can offset the cost.

Also I doubt the servers are ready. Everything we’ve seen so far is probably done locally.

Can Apple run everything on the cloud? Probably yeah? But there is no business incentive for them (at least for Siri department) to do it.

Not really surprising if it is done locally. Unless it's something that needs to translate into phone settings/actions, just use ChatGPT or similar bot instead of Apple's toy.
I really doubt the siri intents/actions will actually take off.
The capability has been sitting there for a while. And even with the new update, it’s still quite limiting

Stupid me thought it was going to be available in Japan as long as I use English as the language. Hope it gets released in other countries soon!

Did double tapping a message always bring up its own card like feature? On a iPad left pane

But it won’t have cross conversation knowledge. Apple probably need to implement the memory feature like chatGPT
The memory feature is the same thing as conversational context basically.

When you send an initial message to ChatGPT, it also sends all of your memories, but invisible to you. And it also sends them every time you send a subsequent message.

This is very very easy to do, but I don't have any clue about Apple implementing such feature.

This isn’t true. Apple restricted EU access due to privacy concerns I believe. It is also not Chat GPT under the skin. Apple made their own LLM and allowed integration to ChatGPT at the users request for things that the Apple LLM can’t handle
