Are analog faces the general preference for Americans which is why Apple gives them so much focus?

I just want the ability to show 3 digital timezones.

I wonder how well Hermès edition sells. Since it is still around I guess it is doing well but I don’t really see the value of it for the band and watch face. But then again I don’t have piles of money laying around.

What are you talking about? Lots of Apple's watch faces are terrible and tacky. And what cultural background are you talking about? How is a Mickey watch face better than a Star Wars themed one? Or those animated jellyfish/butterfly ones? And how is Nike related to the watch culture?

Watches are very personal devices and people want more customisation. The only reason they do it is so they can force people to buy certain models in order to acquire a certain type of watch face.

They may not be serious or classical (what you’d expect from a traditional watch), but without a doubt they’re well crafted and considered. That wouldn’t be the case with third party watchfaces. I know Apple focused a lot more on this in the original AW, but they don’t want it to become a gadget like a phone, and they hold responsibility for what’s shown on it.

There’s always an economic analysis of everything, that’s clear, but do they really do it to make people buy more expensive watches? The AWSE, starting at $279, includes them all (except for the Hermès ones and the titanium background, I highly doubt those ones drive more than 1% of the sales). And if the reason was hot money, they could get a lot from commissions of the “face store”. I sincerely think they do it for philosophical reasons, which ultimately translates to sales.

Ah yes, because the Toy Story face certainly carries elements of the cultural history of the watch...

That’s a well crafted watchface. Paying homage to time keeping doesn’t mean copying references from analog watches and put it directly on a totally different interface.

Apple has a love/hate relationship with complications. They love to boast about them but then only release watch faces that don’t allow complications without compromising the design. When do we get good looking digital faces with two complications? Nike seems to be the only one to get it.

These are great and all but Apple really really REALLY needs to updated the watch hands... they are dull, monotonous and uninspiring.

All these years and every face has the same damn hands. Provide some variety for crying out loud! A lot of the current watch faces would look so much better with customized hands...

I don't want hundreds of badly designed 3rd party faces, I don't want the ability to design my own....

I want.... a few more apple ones designed for series 3. having made them for the newer models in both sizes I doubt it would take much effort to resize them for s3. its my own fault, I broke my s3 last year and paid for a 'repair'. I should have either not broke it then I could justify buying an SE, or instead of the 'repair' (really a replace) cost I should have bought an S5.

I think apple could make money and make people happier if It created/allowed/encouraged a few more fun faces, like the mickey mouse and toy story ones, and companies could make advertising ones.

I think some of the ones we already have which are good, they could do some variations with more or less complications.

Poor show for the S3.

I only bought mine last month and considering they are still selling them and yet only provide 1 additional watch face, (artist - which I would never use) with this update is disappointing.

It's a watch collector and fashion statement thing, value is not part of the thinking.

I would love something more centered around weather, I have created what I can like others by cramming info in with the available complications. I am using the Solar Dial with digital time right now & I noticed with the watch OS7 the sunset colors have been improved, it's really beautiful.

This could be for you then.

their *NEW* products just the same as their speakers of the event, without anything new yet pretending you have the best piece in the world, makes me sick. What happened to Apple now?

Oh no how dare they have a design language that’s successful? When I last looked the watch was featuring new internals and the same successful exterior, making sure that all our bands from the last 5 years still fit.

And then there’s a new iPad in midrange (mid being the middle of the prices Apple charges) that takes the successful design of the Pro line and makes it accessible for many more while retaining the compatibility with their existing beloved accessories.

In other words: exactly what Apple is known for and what is to be expected.

I like the faces.

The diver's watch face needs a date number. A larger easily read number. Date numbers are too small on a typical diver's watch face.

Out of curiosity: why does the date matter when under water?

They still need to fix the hour and minute hands, so they don't look like salami, or those inflatable sticks fans wave behind the baskets at NCAA basketball games, to try to distract the free throw shooters.

Actually, if you look at the hands of a Patek Phillippe Nautilus, and compare them with those on the Apple Watch, you’ll find that they are very similar. Jony Ive has a Nautilus in his watch collection, so I wonder if that was the inspiration?

Just updated from OS 7 beta to GM - Where are my watch faces, all I get on my S5 SS is the tachometer pro - come on man..

maybe its a random watch face you get for free? I got the Chronograph Pro, but no Artist or numerals lol - unless they're hidden under "pride" or some other dumb category?

I have a series 4 and i have the new faces, here are a couple. Have you been through the gallery on the phone or tried to add a face in customise?

So many watch faces that I will never use with about 5 that I will. The art face thing is hideous.

A diver’s watch is worn all the time, right. The date is for everyday use. My complaint about diver’s watches (or other watches) is the date is too small. Apple could make a nice large date for their diver’s watch face.

dont know whether to be happy that series 3 got one new face, or annoyed that they couldn't be arsed doing the other 6 for it.

s3 is still even with the new line up, still part of the present sales strategy so its a bit *****.

at least, the artist face looks to be the best one, but there's no reason whatsoever for the typography and stripes ones not to be available, for example. the others, maybe it wouldnt fit.

I couldn’t agree more.
