There is an stock app that supports live activity, you can track live activity on the lock screen

So I’ve read that live activity will be active if one of your sports teams is playing if you’ve selected your favorite teams in the Apple TV app. I get notifications for when my teams are playing but no live activity for the scores of the games.

Is that strictly an iPhone 14 feature?

The live activities from the TV app will launch with iOS 16.2 next week.

I'm currently using iOS16.2 RC on XSMAX, but I can't find sports live from the Apple TV app.
Will sports live etc. be added when it is officially released?

So this is it then, I guess none of the big name apps are going to take advantage of this? Bunch of apps with literally one dev came out with these on launch day and since then nothing much. I really wish Apple would make this a requirement for certain apps like ESPN.

ESPN never even built a home screen widget… I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Nike Run Club just added live activities and it looks good. 👍

I really enjoy the live activities functionality more than I thought I would. I wish all of the fitness apps would utilize it.

It seems like if you don't have a "Dynamic Island" Phone, Live Activities is not entirely great. It just comes across as another notification. Also, I haven't seen it take off as I hoped it would. Maybe part of that is apps are slow to adapt to it, or the honeymoon period was just short.

Has anyone had any luck with with MLB live activities? The apple tv app doesn’t update in real time. I know I could use sports alerts… I thought the MLB app would work.

I can see how it can come off as another notification but the apps I use don't display a static image. There's usually some type of ticker.

I noticed the other day that the MLB app does have options for Live Activities within the iOS settings. But I've searched every inch of the MLB app for an option to enable them and I dont see it anywhere. I wonder if they'll push out an update before opening day that enables them?

I like Sports Alerts but MLB is really the ONLY sport I watch religiously so the vast majority of the app, I dont use.

Edit: That being said, the more I use Live Activities for sports, the more I realize that we need a way to "pin" them on the lock screen. As someone else said earlier, Live Activities without the Dynamic Island is just a fancy notification on the lock screen. And the sports alerts lock screen widgets leave a lot to be desired.

I don’t really get the point of live activities for sports like baseball and soccer where at the end of the game the score can literally be 0-0, or 1-0.

In that case you’d literally see not one change the entire game in the score or maybe just one point change, so why???

For baseball, no game can end in a tie, at least during the regular season. They play until someone wins so that 0-0 statement isnt true. Cant speak to soccer as I dont watch it.

The live activities details are useful because they do show details about the game as seen in the screenshot. They are also useful for when you cant watch the game in person or on TV for one reason or another.

Ok, I was thinking just showed the score and nothing else. I remember there was some sports at least back in the olden days that could end in a tie. Forget which ones, so a teams record could be something like 14-6-2, 14 wins, 6 losses, and 2 tie games. 😉

American Football can in regular season games.
