Looks great and really looking forward to this.

More generally a BIG thank you to Macrumors for all these tidbits and feature posts since Monday evening. I don't recall you doing this quite so comprehensively before, and for those of us who didn't watch (yet) and will likely miss lots of the unmentioned features otherwise, it's a really big help come update day to ensure we make the most of our devices and functionality.

Thanks again and keep them coming!

I have been dribbling out the new ios 16 features to my girlfriend as I see them posted on macrumors.

she is amazed at all the good USEFUL stuff being added. She's not really into tech that much so I really believe that apple, focusing on usefulness, this WWDC has a huge winner on their hands.

The selection of widgets so far is very poor, but thats to be expected since they were just announced and no one has made any yet.

The thing I would like to see is the ability to center a widget. I just want to add a weather widget and it appears it can only place it to the left of to the right in the box... I want it centered like everything else above it. If I want it to look nice I need to add another widget that I don't really want just so both are centered with the time above it.

I bet you someone will come out with "blank" widgets to achieve the layout you want.

Same old widgets.
Still missing “u-next” or “alarm” widgets.
Just a cosmetic and mediocre update. Again.
A few years now since the widgets were introduced to IOS and still the same widget list. And still the clock widget starting by default with Cupertino time. Not very smart, is it?. Pathetic Apple.
Still will “update” on day 1 and suffer 1 month of bugs (surely Bluetooth connectivity again), etc.
I can’t wait for someone to come up with at better alternative than Android and the self pleasing IOS.

I like to keep my lockscreen clean. If I want to know the weather, I look outside.
I have found that it is usually more accurate to look outside, but I still check the weather app hoping it will tell me something ahead of time. :(

Here is mine with no widgets.

And see how the time is put behind the building. Well you lose that when you add a widget. (iPhone 13 Pro Max)

I can’t help your lack of understanding, probably genetics.

I obviously much prefer IOS but am frustrated at the long time it is taking to roll out even the slightest customisable features to IOS to great fanfare as if they’re inventing the wheel.

I’d better not say any more, the fanboys will be in defending again.
No device can be all things to everyone all at once. Development takes time and choices have to be made on where to place focus and where not to. It sounds like you prefer iOS so clearly you like how and where apple have placed their focus compared to where android has placed there’s overall. Yet you also expect on top of that for apple to do the things android has done as well. Do you not see the contradiction there? Or do you assume there is an infinite amount of focus and resources available at every company and apple has simply chosen to ignore certain features important to you when they could have added them at the same time that they did everything else that you agree makes iOS the better platform?

After adding a widget to the lock screen, while still in edit mode, if you click on the widget, it will give you options. So, for instance, you can set the batter to automatic, or you can specifically choose a device. So for those that add multiple battery widgets, you can set each battery widget to your desired device, instead of just the default auto.

I honestly can’t wait to September. Hopefully by then more third-party widgets will be added. Hopefully, down the line we will be able to change the flashlight and camera toggles as well.

I just want one widget.

A GIGANTIC flashlight icon.

maybe the clock too. :)

Iphone 14 Always on Display confirmed lolol no one spends that much amount of time looking at notifications on the locked screen with Face ID I’ll tell you that.

Really? I can think of a many more.
- Battery level for my car (EV)
- Battery level for my hearing aids (currently reported by their app)
- Timer widget / Countdown timer
- # unread mail / text messages
...many others
Timer widget is actually a live Lock Screen notification.

First of all, another great comprehensive article by Tim Hardwick.

After checking Is iOS Stable twitter report, I couldn't help myself. I installed iOS 16 on my primary iPhone. I dig the Lock Screen overall, especially linking each lock screen to a focus mode, but I have few wishes.
  • Alternate clock face widgets
  • Change Flashlight and Camera widgets to a different app
  • Ability to set a randomized selection of photo from an album (e.g., favorites), featured photos, or memories as a wallpaper.

Is there some reason why the only "animated" iPhone Lock Screen is the forthcoming animated Earth view? Why not Memoji similar to that which is on our Apple Watch. Maybe I missed it.
