It's so difficult to find a case that decently matches the Cosmic Orange color.
I'm hoping the orange silicone case works well with the Cosmic Orange phone... doesn't look too terrible in images.

I would love to go without but I was a klutz before I got tremor so now it’s dangerous for me to carry anything more fragile than a cotton ball!

I mean, isn't that the best way to get top resale value when you sell it to the next person?
I agree, but there's the principle of did you buy this thing for yourself or for the next owner?

It's (sort of) like when people buy a car that they'll keep for maybe 3 years covering tens of thousands of miles over many, many hours, but they spec it entirely based on resale values.

I've had my first Apple silicon case on my iPhone 16 Pro since they discontinued their leather ones*, and even after a year I still don't like how it feels to the touch and sticks in my pocket.

Come on Tim, enough is enough, give the moral decision back to us and offer us leather again. After all, I bet you're not walking around in TechWoven shoes are you?

*yes, I did try other brands of leather case but none worked out for me

There are plenty of other companies that make higher quality and cheaper cases than Apple. I don't like leather, and I don't like Apple's silicone cases, as they are too sticky, so I go elsewhere. Magnets are often better, too.

Apple tried to make these phones pretty, but I can't spend a grand+ on one and just leave it naked. Smartish brand cases are my go-to. They look nice and have the best grip I've ever experienced in a case.

Both, I guess. I buy the phone I want with the specs I need, I protect it while I use it, then sell it to the next person that needs/wants the specs I chose for myself. Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't spend time gazing at my phone with hearts in my eyes. It's a tool for me to use, and I protect my tools so the next person looking to save some money can have a used but pristine tool of their own.

Belkin chargers are good. Disappointed with the clear case from Apple. Cannot see the color when using the clear case. Decided to go for ESR clear case.

For those that want as close to a naked device feel as possible, or for those that don't like case bulk, I can't recommend Totallee enough. The case is insanely thin. No, it's not going to win a drop contest with an Otter box - that's not who this case is for. But if your a conscientious device owner that only needs the thinnest of barriers between their device and the surface upon which it sits, this case is killer. I discovered them around the X launch (can't recall) and has been the only case I've purchased since. 98% of the time, I do not use a case. When I do, this is the one I always have on standby (say, when going camping or something a bit more rugged.

That said, what I have discovered, and reeeeally like, is a snapback (I think it was called) from Atom Studios. I used these for my 15 and 16 Pros. They were acquired by Matter and they are my preferred protection option. Just a thin, rigid plank that connects to the back of your device via magSafe. That's it. No side protection, no front lip. Just the back. Snap it on, take it off. Super convenient.

I have used Totallee cases. They look good, but are basically just general scratch protection. There is literally zero drop protection of any kind especially for the edges, and screen edge. You will damage your screen protector every time with any kind of drop that hits the front of the phone. They are the closest thing you're going to get to being naked with a little scratch protection from sitting on surfaces.

I just want to be clear that the drop protection is basically zero, not just a loss to other cases. I used them on my 15 pro and 16 Pro Max. On the 15 I went through a lot of screen protectors, and ended up with some case damage. On my 16 I didn't run one for very long, because I seem to drop my 16 max all the time and didn't want to worry. I used a Spigen Neo on the pro max most of its life.

I've been using them since iPhone 12 I think, I just love how thin they are I don't want my phone to get too bulky, and they seem to handle drops really well for the case.
Same. I had some pretty nasty drops with my phones and even their thinnest case has prevented all damage to the phone. The case itself only got slightly dented in the corner for the worst drop, all the other drops didn't even leave a trace. I also love the look of that texture and it gives the perfect amount of grip for me. Super elegant.

When I ordered the iPhone 17 Pro I also ordered the new TechWoven case to try it out. I never tried the FineWoven cases and since the iPhone 17 lineup all require new cases I didn’t want to go caseless for possibly weeks until I could get one that fit.

The TechWoven is reassuringly grippy, fits well, the buttons are all very responsive, the MagSafe magnet is very strong and the case is slim so it doesn’t add any appreciable bulk to the iPhone 17 Pro.

For many years my case of choice has been the Speck Presidio Grip line of cases for iPhone. Elderly family members and friends also find them very effective because they help people who have difficulties gripping things securely.

Speck Presidio2 Grip:
  • provides excellent grip so that your phone doesn’t easily slip out of your hand
  • makes it very easy to hold your iPhone securely in your hand
  • If you STILL manage to drop your phone, then the Speck Presidio2 Grip case provides excellent drop protection (13-feet)
  • The Presidio2 Grip supports MagSafe (older Presidio Grip did not)
  • Finally, these cases last a long time. I’ve never had one wear out and I’ve been using them for over 10 years. (Family members to whom I’ve passed along my iPhone when I buy a newer model are still using the original case years later; very well-made, little to no sign of wear)
  • Speck: Presidio2 Grip case (link)

More recently I discovered the dBrand Grip case. A Canadian company:
  • These are super well made and durable
  • They support MagSafe
  • They are slim, so do not make the iPhone bulky to carry
  • They are very grippy around the edges
  • dBrand offers skins of various materials (leather, etc) to add to the back of the Grip cases. I’ve used them on both Android (Pixel 8 Pro, Microsoft Surface Duo 2) and iPhone (14 Pro Max) devices
  • dBrand also offers skins for many other devices (I’ve bought skins for my iPads, Surface Duo 2, Surface Pro 9 and Surface Go 4 models)
  • dBrand: Grip case (link)

For my iPhone 17 Pro I’ve ordered a Speck Presidio2 Grip and preordered a dBrand Grip with a leather skin add-on. I'll have two for alternate daily use and one for Sunday best!

For sure! Apologies if I was murky. Def more for scratch protection than drops. That said…

I dropped my 14 Pro from my lap down to the driveway (getting it of a Tacoma). The device hit hard directly on its corner. I was shocked. Horrified, I picked up the device to see that while the case was trashed, the device was unscathed. The case sent the energy of the impact around the device. Even at .2 mm thin! Pretty wild.

That is also true haha. The Totallee case with break with any kind of a drop, and won't protect your screen protector. They will take the edge off a bad dump and will keep scratches off if is skates down the driveway. It won't keep a corner from getting bent.

I'd be more worried with the softer aluminum than the stronger Ti banding on the older phones, but we haven't seen testing yest on the new pro max. The Totalee are good cases, I just want peoples expectation in the right place. They are 30-40 bucks so when they crack its annoying, but you are correct they are still better than being naked on a drop.

Also fair. Take a village. 💪
