You're right and I do that, but sometimes there are situations where the best option is for it to be standalone.

I'm in the same boat, but hoping for the 13". I saw that Amazon had it for $738 during Black Friday, but was hoping it would drop down to $699. 😄 So waiting for the M5 so the M4 will hopefully drop to $550.

The budget MacBook would be quite sufficient for around 80-90% of all MacBook users, allowing them to browse the web, work on documents, dabble in light media editing, stream music, FaceTime, iMessage and watch Netflix.

The volume of Apple devices shipped and sold, don’t think RAM prices will make any difference.

M6 PRO/MAX ALREADY NEXT YEAR?

Hopefully in early 2026 they also refresh the Mac Mini and Mac Studio lines. I've been re-thinking the Mac Studio idea and decided if I go with a Pro-chip Mac Mini with 48 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, it'd still cost $700 less than a Mac Studio with the same RAM and storage amounts.
