How would that help with stalkers?

The fundamental problem is you don't know if the one carrying the AirTag or the one owning the AirTag is the bad guy.

But there are perfectly simple solutions to that, if Apple would allow them. Why are they bending over backwards to help thieves?

Shame if it were more difficult to remove the speaker. I have AirTags hidden on my rather expensive bicycles. Don’t want to make it easy for potential thieves to find the AirTag.
Just get older ones, there will still be plenty around, even if the range won't improve or the size decrease. I have put one on my bike too and it "greets" me every time I get it, never thought about removing/disabling the speaker though. Might look into that.
Btw, how did you hide them?

Sad because if I put it in my car if it makes sound the theive will find out.
My solution is that the one in my car is tucked in a pretty hard to reach spot under the dash, it’s a pain to get to it to change the battery but it also means if it’s starts beeping on a thief in the event the car got stolen they would have to grab a screwdriver and open up the dash to dig it out, which makes it more likely the car’ll get found before they do that (assuming they even try and dont ditch the car)

The airtag is more for me or my wife to find the car when we forget where we parked than to prevent theft, but the placement is for the latter

And this is a very important point and the reason why I haven't installed AirTags all around my stuff. I get that Apple doesn't want the AirTag to be a stalking tool but they are throwing the baby with the water for those of use who would like to use the AirTags as an anti-thief device.

I'm not that smart, but I'm sure Apple could come with a solution and THAT would be the improvement I'd like to see. Other than that the device is fine.

Since they're so expensive I don't feel I have anything even worth putting one on. 🤷‍♂️

I just picked up a 4 pack on ebay for $25. They were sold as used, but still had the pull tag on and were brand new.

For stuff like AirTags you might as well buy them used. Doesn't really matter, since you can change the battery out. There might be printing on it, but who cares?

What brand are you using? I tried Chipolo and Eufy. Neither worked reliably. After a while, could not be found by FindMy and/or sending false alerts.
Nomad tracking card is what it’s called. About as thick as two credit cards. Works perfectly. Charged it once since I bought it in May. Got a notification from FindMy that the battery was low when it needed charged. Almost seems like Apple made it.

I am not affiliated in any way with the company. Here’s a link for your search of it. I bought it when in USA.

Best feature that could be introduced is the ability of more than one person (eg spose) to be able to track/see the AirTag.

I have one in my car; my wife has one in her car. Every time I drive her car without her, Apple alerts me that I’m being stalked. Apple is mistaken about my wife’s interest in my whereabouts.

Two things are needed, 1. Make it all aluminum, the plastic looks cheap and scuffs easily 2. Try and add GPS, as the apple tracking network isbn't always reliable.

Reminder... AirTags were never intended for retrieving stolen property from thieves.

I hear what you're saying... but that's not what AirTags are for.
This.

However, this in mind, one thing I'd love to see is the addition of a "your AirTag has started moving" notification, as an optional alternative to "you left your AirTag behind".
