Not true.. I work at ups and I took a rail box to the rail yard and I got a notification on my phone about a airtag following me, I got the pop up about a little less than halfway to the yard.
It seems like Apple leaves this vague. I saw something like "4-24 hours"

Gurman said the AirTag 2 will still have a coin cell battery, rather than a rechargeable battery.
Good. As we all know from our phones and laptops, rechargable batteries have X number of charges before they die completely. Better for device longevity to have user-replacable batteries up front.

Sad because if I put it in my car if it makes sound the theive will find out.
I have one in my glove box and once in a while it will just randomly start chirping even though I'm the only one in the car. Eventually it stops and I forget about it until it does it again a few months later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Only thing that will change with the next version will be a new chip that will enable better precision finding. Would have liked to see it in different colours. Not expecting to see a rechargeable battery ever on AirTags. Expecting no design change either.

I feel like the current gen does everything everything I want, the new features does not seem very exiting.
Rechargeable batteries would have been something that could have made me consider getting new ones.

Rechargeable batteries would make the product completely useless. If the battery only lasts two or three days, how can you track your luggage when it gets lost at the airport. Do you want to go around the house everyday putting each of your devices on the charger all the time?

I'm not arguing for it one way or the other but the rechargeable battery in my credit card sized wallet tracker lasts for months

Surprised, but not surprising about the cell battery news.

A rechargeable cell battery would be the best of both worlds, but the problem is that people would put a non-rechargeable in and potentially cause a fire. People can't be trusted.

Sadly, barely anybody makes an effort to recycle cell batteries. They just get buried. This problem needs to be solved.

Just because a battery is rechargeable doesn't mean it only lasts 2 or 3 days. I use rechargeable in many devices and they last for months.

Rechargeable batteries would mean they are not allowed in check-in luggage.

This is a product I was excited about, then they added that anti-stalker stuff. I then got excited again when the speaker could be removed, then it was a pain to remove it from mutliple air tags. Now they're making it more difficult to remove, double downing on the anti-stalker stuff.

I hate the speaker. I have one on my laptop bag and my suitcase. Randomly they start chirping. I also had one on my RV and my trailer, which was great because it was a cheap way to back up my existing asset tracker I have on my trailer, since it was a bit finicky. However, due to the anti-stalking crap, it makes it impossible to use for anything other than my daily laptop bag, since they start squaking. It will be even worse if they "improve" the speaker so much that it becomes louder. They've effectively made the device worthless for how I want to use it. Not saying it's worthless for all, but it vastly limits what it can be used in my use-case.

I'm debating buying some of the older ones on sale if they still have easier to remove speakers.
Downside though is the older location chip in them.
