Works with the guest account too. Just enable it under System Preferences. You only have to authorise yourself as admin to install the updates, but it will prompt you accordingly.

Thanks for the tip!

I tried that as well. I'm gonna make another new admin account and try it again. Someone in another thread said you have to make sure all the apps are in the same folder. How do i check if they are? Maybe that's why I don't get any updates?!

I didnt have to do anything with the folders. Just entered "TEST" in the full name field, change the account to admin, and typed nothing else*

I'm back in my normal account and I found Garageband by direct link to the MAS and it said FREE and it's downloading now too.

I tried the method mentioned in the OP more than once and there are still no updates available.

Apple must have fixed things. I'm over on the iMac now and the MAS is giving me direct, free, updates to iLife & iWork. All of which I purchased on disc years ago. I didn't have to go through the steps above this time, like I did on the MBP earlier.

Works a charm, for both iLife '11 (came preinstalled with my early 2011 MBP) and iWork '09 (purchased retail DVD version, updated)

Thanks a trillion! :)

BTW, an additional step, you do have to enter your Apple ID after logging in to the temporarily created admin "TEST" user.

I noticed this as well, but I don't think it was fixed. I feel like what we did on our MBPs forced the update to then show up on our accounts on the iMac...

Worked for iWork using guest account but not iLife since my mac didn't come with an iLife disc (bought it used). Any work arounds for not having iLife installed?

I tried iLife from my other mac, but it wouldn't install, it needed to be made for the 09 mini.

Didn't see the updates in the test account. When I logged back into my account and went to software update, there they all are. Thanks!

I didn't have to create a "test" account. I simply installed from the DVD, launched Software Update, and it offered to add them to my account. That's presumably how it's supposed to work. Are you guys still installing from DVD, or is there something special about an account called "TEST" that's making it give you the apps for free?

On my MBA 2010, it doesn't work for iMovie and iPhoto, I don't get to see updates. However, when I go to the regular store, I now suddenly can download and install Garageband for free. So, I'm halfway there ;)

Anyone who knows what else I can try?

This worked for me too.

Uninstalled iWork, reinstalled from the DVD and as soon as the install was complete, they appeared in MAS offering to add them to my account.

So I followed the instructionas and updated the Keynote, Numbers and Pages app. The MAc App store downloaded the same copy of apps into the iWork'09 folder. However, when I check the MAS page for iWork apps, I see their status as installed. The version of the downloaded Keynote is not 6.0 it's 5.3

Any suggestions?

Look for duplicate copies in your applications folder. Some people are seeing both the old and new versions on their computers.

Or you could just find the iWork apps in the store and download them for free even though they don't appear in the updates tab but whatever.

Did this but didn't worked out, I've a '09 disc from my iMac, did the TEST account but he only downloaded a little 60mb update, the apps are working, like iphoto 8, but I don't get updates :(

So, I've been doing a clean install voor OS X Mavericks and installed both iLife '11 and iWork '09 suites on my iMac. Unfortunately, my Mac keeps telling me that there are 'no updates available'. I tried to update via the TEST-account as described here, with no luck.

Are you sure it's possible to upgrade when you're stuck with both DVD-versions of the suites?

Help me please!

I got the updates today anyways, They finally fixed it. Plus, I got iWork all for free since I had a torrented version previously, which Apple believed was real, so I got free updates :)
