Having a strange problem.

I create the Test account, and it shows up on the login screen fine. However, once I click to enter the Test account I'm being stopped from using my cursor. I can still move the cursor around, but can't actually click on anything. I couldn't get past the iCloud confirmation screen without a cursor so I restarted. I could then log in to the Test account fine, but again the cursor wouldn't work. I couldn't click on anything on the desktop or any of the drop down menus. Very bizarre.

I should also add that my cursor has zero effect on the main login screen either since switching to Mavericks.

I've got the iWork apps now, but still can't get iPhoto, iMovie or Garageband to show up as an update yet..

Do you guys have them loose inside your Applications folder, or in a sub-folder together? If the latter, what is it named? iLife? iLife '11?

Any tips would be appreciated.

i got the iWork apps but not the iLife apps and Aperture 3.5 (Original DVD box)

They show up MAS but when i hit the update button it says: Update Unavailable with This Apple ID. This update is for app downloaded with a different apple ID. sign in with that Apple ID and try again. i press ok and i then i get this pop-up

Hello,

This docent work for me. When i click the puchase link on the app store it says "you already own pages 4.0 - do you want to purchase pages 5?". I have the old I life 09 dvd...

Am i alone with this issue? Also creating a new user didn't help me either.

My experience :

- clean install of Mavericks on an external drive.

- copied iPhoto 9.4.3 from my ML drive to the Mavericks drive (/Applications folder)
- copied iMovie 9.0.9 from my ML drive to the Mavericks drive (/Applications folder)

- installed iWork from iWork09 DVD

- went to the App Store and got all the updates for free :
iPhoto, iMovie
Pages, Numbers, Keynote.

Also got Aperture 3.5 (initially bought from the App Store).

NO NEED to create another account.

To The Horror : you will get Pages from the updates page, no by clicking on the purchase link.

To all : keep in mind that the applications to be updated must be in the /Applications folder, in order to be "seen" by the App Store.

By clicking on the purchase link i can confirm that the apple store is aware that i already have the software. When i check the update tab, it dosent show.

strange altogether.

You said you have iLife '09, not iLife '11. I believe that Apple is only offering to provide iLife '13 for free to 1) new computer purchases, and 2) current users of iLife '11. If you own a version of iLife older than '11 then you will have to purchase the new versions.

Same, I think, goes for iWork: only new computers purchased as of October 22nd and those who have iWork '09 get iWork '13 for free. If you have an older version of iWork, you have to pay to update.

I got I to work on my iMac. I was doing it my Mac 2,1 which is running mavericks that's why it didn't work for me first time.

I uninstalled the iLife suit on the Mac Pro and I can now install them from my purchased list.

Just an update as to why mine wouldn't work: I purchased my most recent mac in May 2011, so have iLife '09.

Only iLife '11 users get the update; and I believe this product was released in late 2011 - so Macs purchased before then will not be eligible.

I already have Aperture and Final Cut Pro X, so not worth paying for either - I just like being up-to-date!

Creating a TEST user with admin authorisation or using the guest account were not successful.

Changing the system language (in my case) to English did it for me. After doing this the updates appeared in the MAS.

I don't know about that. I have iLife 09 and i was able to download Garageband for free but not iPhoto and iMovie. Why did I get Garageband free and not the others?

GarageBand is now free for everybody. If you do a clean install of Mavericks without installing iLife, GarageBand is still free even though it doesn't show up as an "update". It's the only iLife app that this is true for.

Apple has shifted the strategy for GarageBand: the app itself is now free, but it has in-app purchases.

success

Thanks so much for this step by step instruction. Worked like a charm for me and I'm on version 10.8.5 not Maverick.
