The fact that Apple isn’t allowing trade ins for M2 AVP really is concerning.
Someone posted in another thread that Apple has never taken trade ins on things like headphones or earbuds, presumably because people would not want to buy these used items all sweaty and nasty from the original owner. So I'm guessing Apple does not want to take in used AVPs for the same reason.

The Apple trade in page does not have a category for headphones or earbuds, so that would seem to support this claim.

I think it's more about margins and making it pencil on trade-ins (paying out) vs reusing returned merchandise (see below)

They sell refurbished AirPods (many variants), so they are dealing with "sweaty and nasty from the original owner" somehow.

Could be... seems likely those are returns and not some sort of trade in. I guess you could clean up AirPods and pop on new cushions and be close to like new.

Yeah, returns for sure.

It sounds like people are being told Trade-Ins for AVP are coming in the weeks ahead, which would make sense.

I am betting they offer $1000 at most for it. Could still do better privately, I know there are risks there but it'd likely be substantially more valuable than whatever Apple will offer for it.

so much potential but hard to use effectively without decent access to the filesystem.
Haven't they been making huge leaps forward in that department with OS26? I think they've demonstrated the future they are trying to build for the iPad and finally the software is catching up.

I had to recalibrate my brain's "value proposition analyzer" after seeing the specs and pricing of the new M5 MacBook Pros.

So I looked up what I had paid for a base spec retina MacbookPro10,1 15" in 2012 on everymac.com. It would have been US$2199. BTW it's still working, sitting on my desk and running Sequoia latest release candidate 15.7.2 thanks to OCLP

A roughly equivalent sales tier 2025 14" M5 is said to be priced at $1599, so $600 less than what I paid in 2012

This fact thoroughly blows my mind.

The M1 had a memory bandwidth of only 68 GB/s. So the M5 is a fair bit faster. You posted about the M1 PRO which was much faster. So if the M5 is so much faster than the M1 then it seems likely that the M5 PRO will be so much faster than the M1 PRO you mentioned.
EDIT: By the way, maybe one point of confusion is you saying that "My original 14" M1 Pro base has 200GB/s memory bandwidth". Since the M1 Pro is not the base M1 but rather the more premium version.
When I bought my MacBook Pro, I don't believe there was a cheaper version of it. Almost certain. There was a 14" or a 16" and I got the cheapest 14". There was no M1, unless you got the Air?

Well either way the key question is did your macbook pro have an M1 chip or an M1 Pro chip. Big difference.

The fact that Apple isn’t allowing trade ins for M2 AVP really is concerning. It gives a message that not even Apple wants the device back. I get the feeling that Apple was forced to update AVP as 5nm chips such as M2 are winding down. Apple really needs to drop cash to get devs into the space. Looking at AVP App Store and it’s a sad state of affairs.

M5 iPad Pro feels like M4 v2 and that’s fine. It’s a really solid device.

New M5 MBP, that’s great. Gone are the days of Intel where we had to wait many years for new hardware.

Kind of hoping Apple holds back AppleTV and HomePod till next year and does a super Siri/Homekit event where they also announce their camera and screen HomePod.

I get the feeling we’ll see the tv and HomePod mini tomorrow though. Again, two devices that need to get away from 5nm but do they really need updates? It’d be nice to see Apple justify the new appletv by using AV1 decoder for near 4k Blu-ray movie streaming. AVS enthusiasts would go nuts. It’d put Kaleidascape and their $5k-$100k streaming boxes out of business. Otherwise it’s already fast enough.
I have a 2nd Gen Apple TV box. I think this may be time to update for future proofing and FaceTime??? Plans are to give older Apple TV box to fam member who needs it out in boonies of Wash State. Streaming curated content will save tons on overpriced CABLE provider programming that they don't watch anyway - just the wifi will be a happy medium for them.

Austin Grand Prix is this weekend and Apple is rumored to be on the verge of securing F1 streaming rights in the US. Wouldn't surprise me if they tie a new Apple TV announcement in with it.
If that's on this weekend I am on it myself. Thanks
