When they were getting thinner, people here complained mightily. When they get thicker, people here complain mightily. When they remain the same, people complain mightily.

First off, it's just rumors. Second, if they are true, we have agency and can choose to buy or not buy. Third, I need a nap.
Best comment EVER!

I’ll be switching from the 16PM to the Air this year. I’m tired of having a heavy phone, and the 17PM is going to be even heavier than my current one so…
I’m with you. But I will give it a hardy duration test trial during the 15 day return policy and pray I don’t regret buying it.

So you said the same thing as the other user “no point upgrading unless your existing iPhone is at least 3 years old”… but you have bought every Pro Max model i.e. a new phone every year not every 3+ years… your math ain’t mathin.

The iPhone is so powerful and fast it can age 3 years in only 12 months.

This is slated to be a major upgrade year, but if you have an iPhone 14 Pro or newer, you can likely wait, unless you really need the extra RAM and battery.

I personally will likely skip it and stick with the 16 Pro Max and extra year.
My 14 pro battery is knackered. Barely last a day, drops to 0% anywhere from 10% 3 years old

My advice for getting a new smartphone is simply don't get a new one unless:

1) Your current iPhone is at least 3 years old or
2) The new iPhone has a new feature that you absolutely need or
3) You recently realized Google doesn't respect your privacy, and you want to replace your Android phone with an iPhone
4 I just want one.

Correct, for the average person there is little reason to upgrade. Like I mentioned, I upgrade for the increased battery life. I travel for work and every extra hour I can squeeze out of my device is precious.

Good if there is an increase in battery capacity for the Pro Max. Also the triple 48MP back camera will be great. Hoping that the zoom remains at 5x and that it will allow for 10x with sensor cropping.

Overall it looks like the upcoming 17 Pro Max will be a very good iPhone.

16 max is so great, isn’t it??

Massive achievement. Bravo. Chefs kiss, kudos, titanium? etc.
The added RAM alone, for me, was worth the upgrade, not to mention that the A18 Pro brought significant upgrades for both CPU and GPU while increasing the memory bandwidth nearly 20%.

They fixed the thermal design and the battery life was much improved.

4K@120fps video

Therefore, the 16 Pro Max was not the end-all-be-all, it was simply everything the 2023 iPhone 15 Pro was not and should have been.

Unless you are shooting LOG and RAW and using post-processing, you don’t need a “pro” iPhone, as this is a key differentiator with the “base” models.
The only reason I have a pro max is the big screen. I don't care about the cameras.

There used to be a time, when we waited in suspense, not knowing what will be announced, ready to be surprised and awed by the ingenuity of Apple. Nowadays we compare unannounced products. Not cool.
I don't see the problem with that, I like to know what I may be getting (no matter what the device is) a few weeks or months in advance. I hate waiting and waiting, only for them to just announce it on stage.

At least doing leaks well in advance it gives Apple or any other company an idea of what people think of the product, so that they may be able to do tweaks if any time allows it, or at worst change how the next product or one after that may turn out, considering these devices can be planned years in advance.

This is what you get with any product that is refreshed yearly. You're not getting ground breaking changes. Instead you are getting smaller, incremental changes or additions. If you have a 15 or 16 iPhone it's going to more than likely feel underwhelming. But in reality Apple is working on two or three iPhone years ahead. Apple is working on a foldable iPhone, an all glass iPhone (or at least those are the rumors). The iPhone 18 or 20 or whatever they end up naming it will be more groundbreaking.

You can't have it both ways though. You can either have a new iPhone every year with small changes and better battery life, or you can have a new iPhone every two or three years and get more drastic changes and new features.

The only reason I’d go for the Pro Max is because of the bigger screen. Otherwise I’d go for a base iPhone. Too bad the Air is rumored to be smaller than the Pro Max.

Its always interesting to read people's opinions on what they think are the key differentiators of a particular product. We obviously won't all agree, but the fact that our opinions will vary on which product features are most important at least brings some legitimacy to having the different models in the lineup.

Can we please get multiple personal spaces (sometimes called multiple users) on iPhone? That's what keeps many of us from iPhone and I know apple could innovate the feature to make it even better than it is on android.

This must be a joke, in all the years I followed the iPhone progressing. Never complain actually on forums. But this is my last iPhone. I had enough of this company. Even the Macbook is so buggy all the time. The current management is way too old and are just focused on revenue, which is of course good. But it destroys why you want an Iphone in my opinion. I stil have a iPhone 12 Pro Max and my family members have a iPhone 16 pro max, The money you will pay for this iPhone 17 pro max is not longer defendable.

iOS 26 is a big joke as well. The so called Apple Intelligence is a big fat joke as it was when Siri came out. They are to afraid to completely get rid of Siri and it's time to do so. Sire will never competen agains competitors. The image playground is for children, you can do **** with it.

Oke am frustrated about this company and hope things will take a turn. But from my perspective and I was a die hard Linux user. Am going back. This is my last Macbook Pro and iPhone.
This comment must be a joke honestly because I dumped Windows for an M4 Max Studio in April this year and I've had few bugs. RuneScape 3 crashing because it's still an Intel binary with poorly optimized code is about the worst I've experienced. If I was on Linux for 3 months I would have had to already reinstall it because of something stupid and nevermind that resolution scaling in Linux is by far the worst of the 3 operating systems thanks to different libraries being used for different apps. Don't even get me started on how many fewer annoyances there are vs Windows either. I disabled Gatekeeper and set the computer to not automatically sleep when the screen is off (older monitor with a DVI to USB-C adapter would wake up repeatedly otherwise and pushing the power button to turn off the display would result in it not turning on again until I unplugged it and plugged it back in but I love my Alienware ultrawide and I'm not ready to replace it) and I've been very satisfied since then.

Apple didn't let the secret out as far as everything they have planned at WWDC so don't count iOS 26 or even Apple Intelligence out either (although I personally think AI is just a toy that's not worth the money being dumped into it at this time, especially for things that run on device). That said, my 16 Pro Max beats the living crap out of my OnePlus 13 in battery life and day to day performance despite the fact that the chip in the OnePlus 13 is technically faster and the battery significantly larger on paper so the grass isn't really greener on the other side. The visual overhaul of iOS 26 has also grown on me in beta 2 and in Apple fashion they will continue to actually refine it unlike Samsung and Google where what you see in the beta is what you get at release until months of updates down the line.
