It does feel odd to see. For me its a bit exciting to see something so different for iPhone.

The different aspect ratio does seem odd. But then I remember the pre-iPhone X phones. that front screen might feel quite similar to the iPhone 6 Plus 5.5" display.

Wonder if they will do something different with the home screen? I recall when the iPad was young, they just spread the icons out and kept 4 x whatever grid..it made everything look blown-up and kinda goofy. It didn't seem to bother people much, but I thought it was kinda amateurish.

With dummy models of Apple's rumored foldable iPhone now circulating, YouTube channel Max Tech's Vadim Yuryev has shared images and video of the book-style form factor compared to existing Apple devices, giving us a better idea of what to expect when it launches later this year.

The foldable iPhone's inner display is said to have a 4:3 aspect ratio like an iPad, and it will have an iPad mini-sized OLED display when it's opened up. Most rumors say it will be 5.5 inches when closed, and 7.8 inches when open, making it a bit smaller than the 8.3-inch iPad mini (shown behind the dummy in the image above).

Compared to an iPhone 17 Pro Max in landscape orientation, Yurydev says the width of the foldable is basically the same, but it has a 56.9 percent taller display (71 mm vs. 111.5 mm). Yurydev suggests this will provide a more immersive video experience at 16:9 and will be "awesome" for gaming using onscreen controls.

Yurydev also shared a video showing what it might be like to interact with the outer display, which is probably smaller than many people will be expecting. According to The Information, it will measure just 5.3 inches – smaller than the 5.4-inch screen on the iPhone 13 mini – but that claim is an outlier, whereas most rumors put it at 5.5 inches. Either way, bigger hands may find it takes some getting used to.

Further images give us an idea of the side of the device when folded. A Touch ID-integrated power button and a Camera Control button can be seen set apart on the right side, with volume buttons along the top like the iPad mini. Face ID is not expected to feature because of space constraints, while Apple apparently sees Camera Control as a key feature for the device, enabling users to maintain a steady grip while making any required adjustments, or do so one-handed if they wish.

Note the raised camera bump or "plateau" that does not span across the entire back of the device. It houses a two-lens camera system, rather than three, which is expected.

Yurydev says his dummy unit is exactly 11mm thick when it's closed. That contrasts with rumors suggesting the foldable could be around 9mm to 9.5mm when closed. Yurydev stands by the accuracy of his dummy, saying it should be "spot on" like last year's iPhone 17 Pro units. Yurydev did not disclose the thickness of the unit when open, but if it is 4.5mm as some rumors claim, the foldable iPhone will be Apple's thinnest device by far.

Apple is expected to unveil the foldable iPhone in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models (shown above), whose dimensions are expected to remain identical to the iPhone 17 Pro series, albeit with a smaller Dynamic Island and – based on these dummies – a potentially thicker camera plateau with lenses that protrude more. Apple may call its first foldable "iPhone Ultra," according to an oft-reliable Chinese leaker.

Love the mock-up!😍😍😍 ❤️❤️❤️ I am so looking forward to having it. I cannot wait to ditch iPad and only have one device functioning for phone and mini iPad.

Utter waste of time and money. No one is asking for this device and it's sooo ugly. Not a mass market device. Super expensive and impractical for anyone other than Tech Bros
Why so hateful on a new product? Apple has several phone types that is sure to address your need. Do not worry, this transformative user experience and major iPhone and iPad hybrid evolution device will be a mass market device gradually. It is the most practical technology device!!

Considering how most TV shows and Movies are filmed nowadays, you hardly gain anything over the Max in landscape besides bigger black bars on top and bottom if I am not mistaken?

Also 11 mm? Quite fat compared to competitors already on the market

Or the iPad.
Or the iPod.
Or almost any other device.

Some people can't understand that just because they don't want something or find something useful, other people might have different opinions.

That's true. Someone was recently saying that the iPad Mini would completely disappear because of the iPhone Fold / iPhone Ultra.

But it's nonsense. There will be different use cases for both devices.

I like the idea of a fold, but I don’t think this form factor will work for me given the size of the outside screen. I have pretty big hands and the pro max phones are a perfect size for me, in addition to me being so used to it. Afraid this tiny outer screen will be a deal breaker for me as I don’t envision using the phone open while on the go most of the time

Very expensive, for a small market. I would like one (like everyone else, obviously), but I don't need it. I'm glad it exists though.

I like my 'unpopular' Air, which is probably the opposite of the fold. Having both would be extravagant, but that's the only way this would work for me.

I genuinely wonder how this form factor will do with public. Personally for me, yes it looks ugly and uncomfortable, but I would have to play with the real thing before coming to the final opinion. It's an interesting approach... I suppose...

many have been asking for it and there's certainly a market for them hense why 25 million of foldables were sold last year

don't want one? then don't get one but many want one for better content with them all the time

I actually think that size might work better for pockets. My issue with some brands is never whether the pockets are wide enough, but whether they are deep enough when sitting down so they don't fall out. This design is more compact and all men's pockets should be more than wide enough.

I'm looking forward to going hands on with this. I am still using an OG Pixel fold as my android phone (also use an iPhone Air) and I love the form factor. I want a smallish phone that opens to a bigger phone/small tablet. Not a big phone that opens to an even bigger phone/ tablet.
When tbe screen sizes initially leaked - I was so excited. A mini to use one handed that opens up into a 2 handed device. It would have easily fit in pockets too. I hate the size of phones today.

no one was asking for cars...and we still got them and use them a lot
Dont say never until you try it, but remember you dont have to buy it...so if this isnt for you doesnt mean others will not love it...so waste of time and money for Apple ? one of the most profitable company in the world?! ok buddy

So Apple have never released any duds or made poor decisions due to their net worth? Ok buddy.

We will see if it will flip or flop but at least we are probably back at one hand operable phone when folded.

I'd love to see something different. Though I feel like they'll do whats simple and maybe remove a row of icons and keep it essentially the same as current iPhone home screens.
