I've been using the charge to 80% feature and it would appear that my battery has been liking it. Occasionally the phone charges to 100% probably like 1x or 2x a month. Battery life still at 100% after approx 192 cycles.

iPhone XR 128GB, plugged in overnight every night since I bought it over 5 years ago, battery Maximum Capacity says 91%. Guess I'm lucky ... ;-)

98% after 231 cycles for me, iPhone 15 Pro Max

148 cycles and at 100%. I’m starting to think mine is a false reading
I keep my phone charged too much, so maybe not. I always keep it near 100 so I'm sure that drains it a little faster. I upgrade every year so I don't worry too much about the battery degradation.

99% and 78 cycles. iPhone 15 pro bought December, mostly used MagSafe and occasionally fast charging (20w)

I have the 13 mini and it says it is at 81% Max capacity. I looked up how much it would be to get a battery replaced through Apple without the Apple+ and it says $89. I think I'll do it, give this 13 mini to my 6 year old to play games (without a cell contract) and then upgrade to a 16 whenever that comes out.

What is the max capacity before they will replace the battery with a fee of $89? I have 85% on my 12 mini and it really doesn’t last all day if I actually use it.

My 12 Pro Max battery health has been stuck at a purported 81% for an egregious amount of time and at this point discharges fully within a few hours - I don’t believe for an instant that it’s really unchanged in 6+ months and still 81% when it originally lasted a full day and now doesn’t make it to noon.

Why doesn't this exist on the iPad? you have to resort to some shady method to download a dump file and pay for an app on the Mac to read it and tell you the current battery health.

Same, but 12 Pro Max and 75%. It's enough to really notice it, though. It also seems like the battery percentage stat is less reliable, and that it gets hotter, and more often. I can easily see those things being degraded battery related.

I'm definitely ready for the 16 Pro Max, but I just haven't been in a hurry because mine still looks like new. I've never used a case, just keep it in my jeans or shorts front pocket, and all by myself I'm remodeling a 5 story building I bought. The whole time I've had this phone I've been digging the basement down three feet, tearing out the floors, joists and all as well as ripping off the roof, trusses and all, REbuilding all of that, hanging hundreds of sheets of drywall, etc and it doesn't have a scratch.

Don't quite know how that... happened.

(Oh, and the screen has some slight burn-in as well at this point. But I really feel I got my money's worth!)
Save your money and just get a new battery. The new iPhones are really not a big change compared to your 12 max…it’s still the same old iPhone.

It does make a ton of difference. I‘ve wanted that feature forever. Been manually limiting my Pro 13 to about 80% every time I charge it (except for the occasional falling asleep while charging accident) and it sits at 94% battery health after over 2 1/2 years of daily usage.

It’s unfortunate that older iPhones are incapable of processing that extra information us iphone 15 users have access to. This is a genuine QoL feature that you’ll appreciate as your device starts aging. It’s why you should consider upgrading.

My 15 Pro Max is currently at 127 cycles and 96% health. I check the battery health every week!!!

15 Pro Max with 45 cycles since February and 100% health. Been using the "80% Limit" charging optimization option most of the time, since I don't need the full battery capacity most days (and it's easy enough to switch off when I know I will). Very curious to see how long I can keep this one at peak health.

How are people with new iPhone 15 already at 97-98%? I’m still heavily using a 14 Pro Max and sitting at 99%…

I wish that they would add 80% charge limit to the iPad, too.

97-98% is pretty close to the margin of error when measuring the capacity of a chemical, analog device like a battery. Think of how hard it is to measure the gas in a car. A phone can do better but still there are some uncertainties.

You are doing pretty good for a phone with 18 months. Maybe you don’t push the battery much or maybe you just won the battery lottery. (There are slight differences battery to battery)

It's not false.

Apple over-provisions the batteries. So if you ever use a tool on the Mac named Coconut Battery to look at a new iPhone, you will see that the new battery's life is sometimes 102% to 105%... so the battery has slightly more capacity than the rated value. So when iOS reports 100% for several months on end, what's actually happening is the capacity is slowly declining from 105 to 104 to 103 .... and once it gets down to 99% then we see it reported in the iOS battery menu.
