Thanks 2 GB RAM!

We will soon be enjoying this release on our iPhone SE 1st gen and iPhone 6s, as well as on our two iPad Air 2s.

Again I am so glad we held off buying the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 1st gen.

Strong word of advice:

  • If you have the newest hardware, such as 11 or 11 Pro, go for it
  • If you have a generation older hardware, wait for the next update after the release (usually the next week)
  • If you have two generations old hardware, wait for 14.1
  • If you have the oldest hardware the system can run on (such as SE and 6S), definitely wait for at least 14.2 - Apple isn't keen on getting these running smoothly with the new iOS, they will get to it eventually, but usually only after two or more months

I've been running the betas and currently the GM on the first gen iPhone SE and it honestly runs 100% fine even though it's 6S specs. I say go for it if your device is supported.

I am on public beta, and got notification saying ios 14 is available
Is it general release or GM?
How can i tell

It will come when it comes, I have the beta version on my spare iPhone and not that big of a deal anyway. Will install it and in a couple of days will be like - meh 😑 same ‘ol iPhoneOS and then people will start talking about and getting anxious the next update. The story repeats over and over

Funny thing is I think 24 or 25 hours ago, most of us thought we'd be waiting another couple of weeks for this release. Once that clicked in to our brains, we can't stand the fact we have to wait an extra hour or two from our greatly accelerated expectations timelines. At least that's the case for me...

Rubbish!

I'm running iOS 14 on a 1st generation SE since Dev Beta 1.
Until today, there were no issues caused by that older hardware and i've got absolutely no performance problems.

May I know why you say this? I've updated every single device I own at each major iOS revision at launch time until they had no more updates. 0 issues. I am constantly checking updates for my 7 as we speak.

Just wondering. If no one install the update, who will report the bugs and how apple will fix the bugs in 14.2

It hasn't been unlike Apple to do releases later in the day. Over the last few months, macOS updates have come out between 4 and 7PM EDT here for me in Florida. I know, it's rare, but it happens and since there hasn't been any new articles posted here suggestion it's not coming today, let's just be patient :) I wasn't going to upgrade today anyway, but I will probably try it on my iPad first to see if it's suitable for the phone as the iPad isn't as mission critical.

Macrumors Newbie? I trust Apple testing when compared against comments from a newbie in this forum.
