Strong word of advice:

  • If you have the newest hardware, such as 11 or 11 Pro, go for it
  • If you have a generation older hardware, wait for the next update after the release (usually the next week)
  • If you have two generations old hardware, wait for 14.1
  • If you have the oldest hardware the system can run on (such as SE and 6S), definitely wait for at least 14.2 - Apple isn't keen on getting these running smoothly with the new iOS, they will get to it eventually, but usually only after two or more months
I respectfully disagree. Impressive though that you waited 15 years for your first post though.

Multiple choice...
(a) Last-minute bug was found, holding back further updates; waiting on resolution
(b) Releases are staggered by quantity of requests (e.g., First 1k every 20 min or so)
(c) Releases are staggered by region (e.g., Low population vs. high population)
(d) All of the above
(e) None of the above.

I have an iPhone 7 Plus, and in my view I have nothing to lose. I'll be taking the plunge.

Prosser is that you?

I like to imagine a sea of geeks are standing at different workstations in a massive mission control room at apple HQ, all giving hand signals to each other to queue to the software release, like something from Apollo 13. I'm sure it's much less exciting.

It would be interesting to know how it does happen. Maybe it is just the Return key on Timmy's iPad that sets it off, or maybe a great big green button that gets pushed in a ceremony like the people that get to ring the bells at the NYSE. :)

Still waiting! I bet they delayed the release time to give App devs a few extra hours.

I remember my first job. You have a deadline pop up you just figure it out. I don't feel bad for developers having to work one all nighter. In the audit world you work long hours everyday during busy season.
