The lineup is sorely missing something at $250 to $300 OR $350 to $400.

$600 starting price for the lineup is leaving a large portion of the market with absolutely nothing.

Am I the target for such a device? Absolutely not. But it feels like a gaping hole in the product strategy, and it doesn’t really make sense.

On the compare page under Cellular and Wireless the Air lists: "5G (sub-6 GHz) with 4x4 MIMO"

Whereas all the other recent phones and 17 models say: "5G (sub-6 GHz and mmWave) with 4x4 MIMO"

Is the Air cellular modem really missing mmWave support?

I'm bummed the Air is relegated to USB 2 speeds, despite having the A19 Pro chip. Still have to go Pro for USB 3 wired transfer speeds, which I guess isn't that big of a deal, but disappointing.
I believe that is correct. The base iPhone 17 says mmWave support, so it's not an oversight omission IMO. There was also an article on here that the C2 modem would have mmWave support, so I doubt the C1X has it.

A lot of diversity in this lineup. I like it but it also seems like it is confusing some buyers

No black 17 pro is painful…. And it’s the same weight as my current beautiful space black 14pro??!! I thought the aluminum would make it lighter. Might be hanging on another year with my 14 pro.
The same weight as my 14 Pro may not be a deal breaker for me, but it’s definitely a disappointment. I wonder how heavy it would’ve been if they had used heavier titanium?

As someone who didn't watch the event, and just remembered "oh yeah there was something today". .... SNOOZEFEST.

Reading a few comments yeah the 17 regular seems a "good deal."

I'm on a 15 Pro and the effective only difference in 2 years is an 8X vs 5X optical camera (and a bigger hump on the back)?

Apple has lost it.

I'm happy to see the pricing, however, the trade-in value for my 13PM dropped from $360 pre-event to now $320.

The 17PM did not get the rumored 5/8x true optical (moving Len s) feature so I am now re-thinking what I want, will likely visit the store to hold an Air ...

first world issue.. cant decide on black or blue Air.. that shiny edge is cool, then again.. any case takes that away

Likely go 512 black.. add in battery, bumpa case and see what Pitaka comes out with

Already ordered AirPod Pro 3's

Do any of these, say the 17, do satellite voice? Say if I'm out in the toolies out of range. Or is that by cell provider (ie Tmobile that I don't want to be on but might switch). Garmin has satellite communicators but if the iphone is capable I'd have cause to upgrade (from my refurb 12 Mini).

edit, I found this, tech article last update April '25
Satellite features are included for free for two years with the activation of any iPhone 14 or later model. Connection and response times vary based on location, site conditions, and other factors. Some satellite features require a carrier plan. SMS messaging via satellite is available on supported carriers. SMS message rates may apply. Satellite connectivity is provided by Globalstar and its affiliates. See support.apple.com/kb/HT213885 for more information.

I’m going for the Air because I don’t want to lug around a phone that weighs over half a pound. And no black option for the pro model is truly mind boggling.

I really want to upgrade my 15PM but theres no reason to. I'll just swap it out with applecare for 99 bucks and get 2 more years of 15PM

So this means the Air doesn't support Verizon's 5g Ultra Wideband service, but every other iphone 17, 16, 15, 14, 13 do? That seems weird if true. The 16e seems to be the only other model that doesn't list mmWave support

Bc the 16e and 17 Air use Apple’s C1 and C1X modem. All other iPhones use Qualcomm chips (Snapdragon). No mmWave support from Apple modems until the C2 next year.

Honestly given the hyperinflation and tariffs of recent years, it's pretty great that Apple has kept their prices relatively stable.

Yeah. The price for the 17PM is the same as I paid for my same spec 13PM. Goes to show how much margin they have built in and how efficient manufacturing has become.

Small detail: iPhone Air doesn't have a LiDAR. It's come in handy to measure things which has been surprisingly accurate but I'm willing to forgo it.

I skipped the 16 Pro because it had nothing going on over my 15 pro. Now I’ll likely skip the 17 Pro because it’s simply hideous. I’m kinda worried that Apple is losing the plot here.
I 100% agree. I didn’t see the Apple event but logged onto the Apple website with the full expectation that I’d be trading in my 15 Pro for a 17 Pro, and was underwhelmed. Those colours! Are. Hideous. Who on earth signed off on those? I’d settled on silver before I retired to bed, as the least worst.

The only feature I really wanted was the upgraded camera optical zoom from 3x to 8x. But I’d need to love it to spend that kind of money on it. So on balance, and having slept on it, I think I’ve decided to hang onto my current phone for a further year
